Frank was born in Tulsa, OK, on February 23, 1927, to Jane Martin and Frank Lubbock Davies.

He grew up in Tulsa and Wichita, before moving to Enid in 1940. He graduated from Enid High School in 1945, where he was class president, captain of the football team and student body president with Bill Stramp.

Frank joined the Navy after high school, serving as a radar operator during World War II. He participated in East Coast mine sweeping on the USS Hamilton, USS Hobson and USS Fitch.

He attended the University of Oklahoma, graduating with a bachelor's in architecture in 1952.

In 1948, while attending college, he married Nancy Jane Frantz, also from Enid. A member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, Frank studied architecture under then-dean of the school, Bruce Goff.

Frank apprenticed at Coston Frankfort Short and Caudill Rowlett Scott in Oklahoma City until founding Howard Samis & Davies in 1958. Frank moved back to Enid in 1965, to manage Davies Brick & Tile, while his father underwent cancer treatment in Oklahoma City. After the brick plant was sold, Frank was offered a partnership with D.A. Smith, which became Smith Day & Davies, securing his lifetime commitment to Enid. Soon after D.A. Smith passed, Bob Poe joined the firm, and opened the Tulsa office, Day Davies & Poe in 1974, which eventually became Davies and Poe. In conjunction with two other consulting firms, Frank became vice president of Jack Nicklaus Associates, designing golf course communities throughout the United States.

Frank was on the board of visitors for the OU School of Architecture and the OU Business School. He was a staunch Republican and worked tirelessly to elect the first Republican governor of Oklahoma, Henry Bellmon, with whom he remained close friends to the end.

Enid, Oklahoma
April 2018

Nancy Jane [Frantz] Davies
May 18, 1927 ~ April 5, 2018

A celebration of life for Nancy Jane Davies, 90, of Enid will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, April 14, 2018 in the First Presbyterian Church of Enid with The Reverend Andrew Long officiating.

Precious Lord, take my hand… her prayers were answered on April 5th, 2018. Born to Thelma and Harry P Frantz, Nancy had two older brothers Robert and Harry Jr, and a younger sister Jeannine.

She married Frank L Davies Jr in 1948. We rejoice they are together again.

A graduate from Enid High School 1945, Nancy attended Sweet Briar College in Virginia before graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Oklahoma in 1949. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and was a Phi Beta Kappa. She completed her teaching certification at Phillips University in Enid where she served on the Board of Trustees, was appointed interim President, and later awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws in 1994.

While living in Oklahoma City, Nancy served as President of the Junior League in 1964. She was an active member of the YWCA, PTA, Campfire Girls, and devoted member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

She campaigned for the Republican Party as a Bellmon Belle.

After returning to Enid in 1965, she became the first woman appointed to the OU Board of Regents, during a time of substantial student unrest, until being elected President of the OU Board in 1972.

She was appointed by Gerald Ford to serve on the National Council for the Humanities in 1976, reviewing grants for young filmmakers like Ken Burns to make The Civil War.

Nancy was truly a public servant. She touched the lives of many souls, some prominent and influential, others in need of a gentle hand and caring assistance. Although prestige seemed to follow her… she never actively sought her many honors.

She was on the board of The Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation and Executive Director of the Oklahoma Constitutional Revision Committee. She was honored to be the Enid YWCA 1972 Woman of the Year and Enid Salvation Army 1988 Citizen of the Year.

She was a member of the Oklahoma Heritage Association Board of Directors. She was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 1986, hobnobbing with James Garner.

She served on the Oklahoma School of Science and Math Foundation Board. In 1995 she was inducted into the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame.

Nancy loved her faith, family, and friends, as well as Sooner football... wearing crimson and cream every single game day. She was known to Thunder Up on occasion.

She loved music... never one to miss a Michael Hedges concert or an Enid Symphony performance. She was a gourmet cook, a gardener, and loved to read if she ever slowed down. It was on the deck at Lake Keystone and the patio at Smokerise that she earned her highest accolade… mom.

She is survived by her three children... Joann and Greg Graham of Edmond, Sally and Buck Davies of Tulsa, Subha Sridharan and Frantz Davies of Tulsa, five grandchildren... Jennifer and Darin McClary of Edmond, Patrick and Whitney Graham of Edmond, Frank L. Davies IV of Tulsa, Anna and Jabraan Pasha of Tulsa, and Walter Davies of Tulsa, and four great grandchildren... Shyann McClary, Camryn, Callie, and Nealy Graham of Edmond.
