John Ernest "J.E." Darnell Jr
April 14, 1928 ~ February 26, 1998


J.E. Darnell of Waukomis, OK., died February 26, 1998, at the age of 69. He is survived by his wife, Clara; his children, Brenda Hoffsommer and husband, Steve of Hillsdale, OK., Gary Darnell and his wife, Chris of Wichita, Kansas, Terry Darnell and his wife, Denise of Benton, Arkansas, Cindy Brown and husband, Kenneth of Garland, TX.; one sister; three brothers; and ten grandchildren.

J.E. was born on April 14, 1928, in Hollis, OK.

After graduating from Dodson High School, OK., he worked for Phillips Petroleum and played semi-professional baseball at Borger, TX.

J.E. retired from Bass Memorial Hospital in Enid, OK.

He was a member of the 14th and Maine Church of Christ in Enid.

Mary Sophia [Bowden] Darnell
September 13, 1902 ~ August 27, 2003


A graveside service for Mary Sophia Bowden Darnell, 100, will be 2 pm Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Harold Honnold will officiate. Arrangements are by Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

She was born September 13, 1902, in Hillsboro, Texas, to Isaac Hillingsworth and Maudie Beatrice Johnson Bowden and died Wednesday, August 27, 2003, at her daughter's home in Elizabeth City, N.C.

She married Mark Lively Darnell.

She was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church, formerly Trinity United Methodist Church of Enid, and active in the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 36, Enid.

Surviving are one daughter, Beatrice Elizabeth "Betty" Ferrell of Elizabeth City; one son, Eugene of Enid; four grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons.

Clara Mae [Dugan] Darnell
May 21, 1932 ~ December 28, 2010


ENID - Funeral service for Clara Mae Darnell, 78, will be 10 a.m. Friday, December 31, 2010, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. Terry Darnell will officiate.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. A time of visitation with the family will be 6:30-7:30 p.m. today. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Clara was born May 21, 1932, in Lula, Okla., to Luther Ernest and Ruby Irene [Angel] Dugan and died Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at St Mary's Regional Medical Center.

She married J.E. Darnell May 29, 1950, in Borger, Texas. He preceded her in death February 26, 1998.

She worked in the cafeteria at Pleasant-Vale, Drummond and Waukomis public schools.

She was a faithful member of 14th and Maine Church of Christ and TOPS Club.

She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She loved gardening, genealogy, playing games with her grandchildren and was a generous caretaker for members of her family.

Survivors include her children, Brenda Hoffsommer and husband Steve of Hillsdale , Okla., Gary Darnell and wife Chris of Wichita, Kan., Terry Darnell and wife Denise of Harrison, Ark., and Cindy Brown and husband Kenneth of Garland, Texas; sister, Elva Cheatwood and husband Floyd of Oklahoma City, Okla.; brother, Jerry Dugan and wife Sonia of Russellville, Ark., sisters-in-law, Dorothy Dugan of Nixa, Mo., and Maxine Dugan of Enid, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, J.E.; infant daughter, Debra Ann Darnell; and brothers, Dean Dugan and Dale Dugan.

Memorials may be made to Hillsdale Christian School with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.

Eugene "Gene" Darnell, 88, of Arlington, TX, formerly of Enid, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2022. Services are pending with Ladusau-Evans.

A graveside service for Gene Darnell, age 87, will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2022, at Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev Harrell Davis will officiate. Arrangements are entrusted to Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Gene was born July 4th, 1934, in Enid, OK, to Mark Lively and Mary Sophia Darnell and died Saturday, June 4th, 2022, in Arlington, TX.

On December 27th, 1959, he married Elda Jeanette Knopfel in Covington, OK.

After an honorable discharge from the US Army, where he worked as a mechanic, he worked for Hurst Motors in Enid. He later worked for Dean Pearson Dodge in Enid for several years and then finished out his career with Central Oklahoma Freight Lines as a diesel mechanic. During all this time he was actively involved with different race cars at Enid Speedway.

He is survived by his daughter, Jeannie Kay Jackson and husband Larry of Arlington, TX: sister, Betty Ferrell of N.C.: four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and many others who considered him family.

He was preceded in death by his wife Elda, his parents Mark and Mary and 2 brothers, Jack and Melvin.

The funeral service for Elda J. Darnell, age 70, will be held 2 pm Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. Rev Harrell Davis will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Elda was born June 2, 1939, in Marshall, OK, to Carl F. and Margaret A. [Watson] Knopfel, and died Thursday, December 17, 2009, in Enid. She graduated from Marshall High School. On December 27, 1959 she married Eugene Bowden Darnell in Covington, OK.

She worked at the Enid News and Eagle for 35 years, her last position being the Supervisor of Classified Ads. She also worked At United America Advertising for three years.

She was a member of the Oklahoma Square Dance Club, serving as treasurer and also a member of the Shirts and Skirts Square Dance Club and of Trinity Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Gene, of the home; daughter, Jeannie Kay Jackson and husband Larry of Arlington, Texas; sister, Dorthy Vogt of Oklahoma City, OK; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and three sisters.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Circle of Love or Relay for Life with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home as custodian of the funds.

Minnie Lenora [Samples] Darnell Mainord
September 7, 1941 ~ February 1, 2020


A Celebration of Life for Minnie Lenora Darnell Mainord, age 78, of Enid, is 10:00 am, Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Central Assembly Church with Rev Josh Cosby officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday, February 7th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Minnie was born at home, September 7, 1941 in Reydon, Oklahoma to Clarence and Viola [Selby] Samples, and she passed away Saturday, February 1, 2020 in Enid, Oklahoma after a brief illness.

She graduated from Selman High School in 1959.

She married Victor Darnell in 1960, and they had two daughters making their home in Selman, OK before moving to Enid in 1966.

She began her banking career at First National Bank, and later was a personal banker at Central National Bank for many years before retiring in 2007.

She was a longtime member of Central Assembly of God Church where she participated in various friend and bible study groups and was a mentor to many teen girls through the Missionette program.

Minnie enjoyed women's social outings and playing dominoes.

She married Gilbert Mainord in 2005 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. She and Gilbert enjoyed trips including Alaska, Florida, and Branson; attending gospel concerts; and having lunch out with friends and family.

Minnie was steadfast in her faith and a woman of quiet strength. She cared for those in need and opened her heart and home to them. She was a faithful friend to the end.

Minnie is preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Lavona Martin, Sue Mauldin, and Joyce Crow; and two grandchildren, Austin Walker and Maddox Morgan.

She is survived by her husband, Gilbert Mainord, of the home in Enid; two daughters, Vickie Walker and husband Carroll, of Fort Myers, FL; Kaylene Reeves and husband Larry, of Lenexa, KS; four stepchildren, Kevin Mainord and wife Julene, of Enid; Amy Morgan and husband Greg, of Edmond; Ron Mainord and wife Melissa, of Fairview; Leigh Arnold and husband Chris, of Edmond; two sisters, Larue Phillips, of Roosevelt, UT, and Teresa Samples, of Ringwood, OK. She leaves ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Memorials in Minnie's name may be made to Twice Loved with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.

Minnie's family would like to thank the staffs of St Mary's ICU, Greenbrier Skilled Nursing and Elara Caring Hospice for their unwavering compassionate care during her brief illness and final days. We are forever grateful.
