Alvin Lyle Cox
April 18, 1907 ~ February 2, 1981


Last rites for Alvin Cox, 73, will be at the graveside in Memorial Park at 11 AM Wednesday with the Rev John Matthieson officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Fossett Funeral Home. The casket will not be opened before nor after the service.

Cox died Monday morning in a local hospital after a period of ill health.

He was born in Belle Plaine, Iowa, April 18, 1907, at the age of three moved with his parents to Los Angeles, California.

Cox lived there until his retirement in 1971, when he and his wife began traveling. They had made Enid their permanent address. He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Cox and Mary Wray were married December 25, 1945, in Enid. In addition to his wife Mary, of the home at 431 S. Pierce, Cox is survived by a son and three daughters, Alvin Lyle Cox Jr, San Francisco, California, Barbara Bayer, York, Pennsylvania, Carolyn McLean, Olympia, Washington, and Donna Boyd, Waterloo, Iowa; a sister, Gladys DeCou of Los Angeles and 14 grandchildren.

Lydia Mae Cox, 96, passed away today, November 5, 2004. A viewing will be held tomorrow, November 6, 2004 at Ferguson Funeral Home in Chickasha from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are pending with Henniger-Allen Funeral Home of Enid, Oklahoma.

Graveside services for Lydia Mae Cox, 96, of Chickasha, will be held Monday, November 8, 2004, at 3:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Enid, Okla.

Services will be officiated by Tom Pullin of Hennigar-Allen Funeral Home. Viewing was held Saturday, November 6, 2004 at Ferguson Funeral Home of Chickasha.

Lydia Mae Nelson Cox was born October 29, 1908 in Ames, Okla., the daughter of Henry & Eire Nelson. She died Friday, November 5, 2004 in Chickasha.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Cecil Cox and by both parents, three brothers, and two sons, Calvin Cox of Chickasha and Joe Cox of Enid.

Survivors include two granddaughters, Beverly Charlson and Joy Shepard and one grandson, Calvin Cox; great grandchldren, Austin Charlson, Heath Cox, Heather Cox, Dalton Shepard, Dylan Shepart and Devon Shepard.

Homer Earl Cox
July 19, 1910 ~ December 15, 2010


Funeral services for Homer E. Cox, 100-year-old Enid resident, will be Saturday, December 18, 2010, at 1 p.m. in the Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev Joe Wilson will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Homer was born July 19, 1910, on a farm near Fairmont to Bert Cox and Sarah [Yates] Cox and died Wednesday, December 15, 2010, in Greenbrier Nursing Home. He graduated from Douglas High School, Douglas, Okla.

On February 17, 1932, he married Ruth Weldon.

He began working at Snyder grocery Store in Douglas. He also farmed near Douglas as well as Enid. He worked for Pillsbury and retired from Champlin Refinery after 27 years. He and Ruth lived in Enid for 74 years and were married 61 years until her death.

Homer is survived by children, Dwayne Cox and wife, Virginia of Tulsa and Barbara Booze and husband, John of Enid. Seven grandchildren, Karen Cox of Pennsylvania; Randy and Rene Cox of Tulsa; Kevin and Vona Cox of Owasso; Steve and Sharon Booze of Maude, Okla.; Tod Booze of Dallas; Raeann and David Hunt of Enid; and Daryl and Belinda DeVore of Amorita, Okla. Also, 13 great-grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth; daughter Beverly DeVore; grandson, David Booze; two brothers and five sisters.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Ross Hospice.

Ruth [Weldon] Cox
April 22, 1911 ~ April 25, 1993


Ruth Cox was born April 22, 1911, in Gilman City MO to James O. and Ada [Bland] Weldon and died April 25, 1993, at St Mary's Hospital after suddenly taking ill at her home.

At the age of two, she had moved with the family to the Mulhall OK area. They later lived in the Marshall-Douglas OK area. She graduated from Douglas High School in 1930.

On February 17, 1932, Ruth married Homer Cox in Enid. They lived in the Douglas community for 10 years, then moved to Enid OK in 1941.

She worked at Woolworths and J.C. Penney for a time and was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband; son Dwayne D. Cox of Tulsa; daughters Beverly DeVore and Barbara Booze, both of Enid; 7 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her grandson David Booze, one sister, and one brother.

ENID, OK - A private service for Katherine Marie Cox will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements by Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.

Katherine was born November 17, 1916, in Lamont, Okla., to Robert Franklin Jackson and Bertha Lee [Cotton] Jackson and died Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at the Living Center in Enid.

She was reared in Hunter and attended Hunter schools and Hunter Christian Church.

On January 26, 1961, she married Phillip J. Cox.

Surviving are brother, Bill Jackson and wife Ruth of Pond Creek.

Preceded by her husband, Phillip in 1990, one brother and three sisters.

Evansdale - Mary Wray Cox, 81, of Evandale, formerly of Enid, Okla, died Tuesday, March 20, at her home of natural causes

She was born December 11, 1919, in Ada, Okla, daughter of Walter N. and Nellie D. Wray.

She married Alvin L. Cox on December 25, 1945. He died Februay 2, 1981.

Survived by: three daughters, Barbara Bayer of Murrells Inlet, S.C., Carolyn McLean of Olympia, Wash, and Donna Schmkitz pf Jesup; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren; and two brothers, Dick Wray of Oklagoma City and Walter “Bud” Wray of San Diego.

Grave Services: 10 am Saturday at Memorial Park Cemetery, Enid Okla.

Eileen Mable [Rempel] Cox
May 16, 1923 ~ December 24, 2007


Funeral services for Eileen Mabel Rempel Cox, 84, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Henninger-Allen Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev Rose LeRoy will officiate.

Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be a family visitation from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mabel was born May 16, 1923, in Corn to George G. and Mary Warkentine Rempel and passed away Monday, December 24, 2007, at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center.

Mabel graduated from Enid High School.

On June 9, 1942, she married Victor D. Cox. The couple made their home on a farm east of Enid.

She worked as a kitchen manager of Pleasant Vale School. Pursuing a personal goal, Mabel graduated with the first Licensed Practical Nurse training course at O.T. Autry Vocational Technical School. She worked for a number of years at many local area nursing homes.

After leaving the farm in 1974, Mabel and Victor moved to Enid where they resided until Victor's death in 2003. Mabel continued to reside in the family home until illness required a change of residence.

Mabel was an active member of Bethany United Methodist Church for over 50 years.

Mabel is survived by one daughter, Haven L. Colquitt and husband Harold of Enid; one son, Richard D. Cox of Enid; one sister, Leora Thesman of Enid; five grandchildren, Patrick Cox, stationed with the Navy in Norfolk, VA, Brian Cox of Chapel Hill, N.C., Kelly Cox of Enid, Jon David Colquitt and his wife Leslea of Thomasville, GA, Jason Colquitt and his wife Sabrina of Concord, N.C.; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mabel was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Victor, and one sister Viola Davidson.

In consideration of her great-granddaughter's recent battle with brain cancer, Mabel asked that donations be made in lieu of flowers to the Savannah Colquitt medical fund with Henninger-Allen Funeral Home acting as custodian of the funds.

Patsy Alice [Hill] Cox

ENID, Okla. - Funeral service for Patsy Cox will be 2 p.m. today, November 9, 2012, at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Rev Wade Burleson officiating.

Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Service is under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Patsy was born December 10, 1926, in Frisco, Texas, the daughter of W. Leroy and Katheryn Hays Hill and went to be with her Lord Wednesday, November 7, 2012.

She was a 1945 graduate of Frisco High School.

She was united in marriage to Melvin L. Cox February 14, 1948, in Enid, Okla. He preceded her in death March 28, 1999.

She and her husband owned and operated The House of Hobbies in Ponca City and Enid.

Patsy was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and was a dedicated member of the Praisesingers, Past Matron, Ruth Chapter of The Order of the Eastern Star and Past Noble Grand of Enid Rebekah Lodge 21.

Survivors include four sons, Michael Cox and wife Debbie of Allen, Texas, Stephen Cox and wife Gayle of Edmond, Okla., David Cox and wife Susan of Boca Raton, Fla., and Terry Cox and wife Patty of Wichita, Kansas; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and sister, Wynema Kirkland of Denton, Texas.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and six brothers.

Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church Praisesingers, Emmanuel Baptist Church Benevolence Fund or the Kidney Foundation with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.

Carroll F. Cox
December 21, 1930 ~ March 27, 2005


Funeral services for Carroll F. Cox age 74 of Enid will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Ladusau-Evans Chapel with Rev Chuck Sturgeon officiating.

Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Carroll was born on December 21, 1930 in Oklahoma City, OK to Robert and Ouita Louise Forrester Cox and passed away Friday, May 27, 2005 in St Mary's Regional Hospital after a sudden illness.

He attended and graduated from Enid Public Schools in 1950. He enlisted in the US Army in 1950 serving in the 45th Infantry Division Artillery during the Korean Conflict. He received the Army Occupation Medal [Japan], Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal, and was honorably discharged in 1952.

He married Elisabeth Appel on June 9, 1970 in Enid.

He owned and operated his own jewelry business for several years.

His wife Elisabeth of the home, one daughter Shari and her husband Otis Munkres of Ames, two sons Brian Cox of Shreveport, LA and Steve Cox of New York, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren, his favorite uncle Leon Cox of Oklahoma City, and many beloved cousins survive him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and step father Harry Morris. Memorials may be made to the donors choice with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the fund.

James R. Cox
March 29, 1932 ~ December 19, 2024


James R. Cox, 92, was born in Carmen, Oklahoma to Charles Henry Cox II and Corinne Dickey Scruggs Cox. He died December 19, 2024, in Enid. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jo Ann Cox Ebisch of Hooker.

James graduated from Carmen High School in 1950 and moved to Hooker, Oklahoma where he met the love of his life, Janet Stell Cox. They were married for 72 years.

James graduated from University of Oklahoma with a geology degree in 1958. He worked as a geologist for Lone Star Petroleum in Abilene and Midland, Texas.

After working long hours in the oil fields, James decided to return to the University of Oklahoma to attend law school. He received a juris doctorate degree in 1965 and moved the family to Enid, Oklahoma where he joined the Mitchell Law Firm the same year. He became a partner in the firm with an emphasis on litigation and oil and gas law and worked there until 1981.

James opened a private practice focusing on oil and gas, as well as real estate and probate. He was admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, the Northern, Eastern and Western Federal Court Districts of Oklahoma and all Oklahoma courts. He was honored for 50 years of service as a member of the Oklahoma County Bar Association.

For many years, James was the only lawyer regularly appearing before the Oklahoma Corporation Commission to represent landowners and small oil companies.

James' faith was foundational in his life. He was an active member of Central Christian Church for nearly 60 years and served as an elder and as Chairman of the Board several times. He also served as President of the Northwest Oklahoma Emmaus Organization, Youth Ministry Leader and he truly enjoyed taking part in the Adult Sunday School Class.

He served as Exalter Ruler of Enid Elks Lodge and as State President of Oklahoma Elks Association. He was active in Oakwood Country Club and served as President in 1980. He was active in various service organizations such as AMBUCS and Horn of Plenty.

James was known as always being forthright and trustworthy and as a man of his word.

James had many hobbies and interests including golf, water skiing, snow skiing, camping, hunting and woodworking.

As evidenced by his activities above, James was dedicated to serving others and often rose to leadership positions in any organizations he was a part of.

He was a dedicated father, grandfather and great grandfather earning him the license plate of "#1 Pa Pa".

James and Janet raised three children in Enid, Jamie Cox Smith and husband Joe Smith of Bixby, Oklahoma; Jerri Cox Whetstone and husband Byron Whetstone of Leawood, Kansas; and Jay Cox and wife Stephanie [McCosh] Cox of Columbus, Georgia. They lost a son shortly after his birth in 1957, James Dickey Cox. James is survived by eight grandchildren: Jordan Smith [Mary] of Tulsa, Jeff Smith [Candis] of Ft Pierce, Florida, Jenna Smith of Tulsa, Tyler Whetstone [Lindsey] of Leawood, Kansas, Peyton Whetstone Stueve [Alex] of Kansas City, Missouri, Ben Whetstone of Kansas City, Missouri, Jillian Cox Teague [Lacy] of Lewisville, Texas, and Ashley Cox of Atlanta, Georgia. Their great grandchildren include: Abigail Smith, Caitlyn Smith, Chloe Smith, Taylor Smith, Leona Keating, Quinn Whetstone, Violet Whetstone, Ivy Whetstone, Tristan Teague and Faith Teague.

Celebration of Life Service will be Monday, December 23rd at 10:00AM at Central Christian Church, 1111 W. Broadway, Enid, Oklahoma.

Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation held Sunday, December 22nd from 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM at Anderson Burris Funeral Home, 3002 North Van Buren, Enid, Oklahoma.

Memorials are encouraged through the Funeral Home to Central Christian Church.

Funeral for Jerry Eldon Cox Jr, 47, Enid, will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at House of Prayer. Jim Thorpe will officiate. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under kind guidance of Stittsworth Funeral Service.

Jerry was born October 24, 1965, in Enid and passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013.

Jerry was a CNA/CMA for Greenbrier and later The Commons and an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.

Survivors include his wife, Rhonda; mother, Anna Clark; sons, Jerry and Jeremy; daughters, Kari and Latrisha; eight grandchildren; sisters, Johnnie and Dianna; and step sisters, Sherry and Terry.
