© Davis News Davis, Oklahoma March 2008 October 3, 1919 ~ March 17, 2008 Glenna Mae Cordell, of Cushing, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2008 in Tulsa at the age of 88 years. The daughter of the late Charles Edward and Grace Stephens Fowler, Glenna was born on October 3, 1919 in Kiefer, OK. When in third grade, they moved to Ripley, OK. Later moving to a farm, attending Free Silver School, graduating from eighth grade, later going to Ripley school. She was a member of the Church of God. She and her living sisters, Lorene and Florene & Blanche Hankins formed a quartet singing at various singing conventions and churches for several years. She went to Enid in 1943, working at Marquise Studio for several years, which were famous for making school pictures. She attended the Church of God there. The 9th of April 1944, she married Darrell D. Cordell. She taught Sunday school for many many years. She loved children, had several who called her later in life, "Grandmother" which she loved. She was a homemaker, Girl Scout leader for years, a good neighbor and friend. Her husband died in 1989, and being in ill health moved to Cushing in 1997 to be closer to her sisters. She truly enjoyed the Church of God family there, making many new friends, loved her neighbors, her desire was to be a blessing to others. Survivors include one sister, Florene Neal of Cushing and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Gene and two sisters Thelma Fowler and Lorene Boyle. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. in the First Church of God with Reverend Kevin Clouse, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery at Enid, OK. |

© Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Enid, Oklahoma December 2018 April 25, 1921 ~ November 23, 2018 The Funeral Services Celebrating and Honoring the Life of Vera M. Cordell, 97, of Enid will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday December 6, 2018 in the Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kenneth Wade officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. She was born April 26, 1921 in Breckenridge, Oklahoma to Fred and Emilie Heitfeld Sohl and passed from this life on November 23, 2018 in Enid, Oklahoma. She moved with her family to Los Angeles, California in 1941 and then returned to Breckenridge, Oklahoma during World War I. After World War II she lived in Western Chemical Carter, Utah, Fort Warden, Washington, Tombstone, Arizona, Fort Yokato Air Base, Japan, Fort Ord, California, Arizona, and then returned to Enid with her children in 1956. She married Jack F. Cordell in 1957 in El Reno, Oklahoma and then made their home in Enid, Oklahoma She worked for Banfield's meat packing company in Enid, in the sausage kitchen. In December 1992 she retired as a school crossing guard. She was a crossing guard on the corner of Cottonwood and Grand Street for twenty-one years. She dearly loved the children. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and spent many hours as a volunteer in the church. She was a greeter for the early service, past president of the Aid Association for Lutheran's [non-Thrivent], a fraternal organization in the Redeemer Church, and President of Season Saints organization. She also served on various boards in the congregation. She always wore a hat to church and sometimes was referred to as "the hat lady". She enjoyed sports, especially baseball and was a big OSU fan. She was always ready to help when needed. She is survived by her son, Richard Long, of Enid, daughter Janice Keen, eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Robert Long, brothers, Fred C. Sohl, Herman Sohl, Walter Sohl, and Henry Sohl, and sisters, Martha Riffle, and Clara Davis. The Rev Vernon Lee will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. She is survived by six children, Steven Bradley Doss and wife Toni of Enid, Cynthia Kay Acuna and husband John of Vernon, Calif., Lawrence Eugene Doss and wife Teresa of Enid, Byron Joseph Cordell of Los Alamos, N.M., Timothy Dwayne Cordell and wife Valerie of Sand Springs, and Michael Cordell of Enid, and grandchildren, Ashley, Joseph, Trevor and Sophie. Memorials may be made to OMRF, Alzheimer's division. |
