© Enid News and Eagle Enid, Oklahoma Dece,ber 13. 2008 July 16, 1925 ~ December 11, 2008 A graveside service for Marion Cooper, 83, of Wagoner, will be 1 p.m. today, Dec. 14, 2008, in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Shipman Funeral Home & Crematory, Wagoner. He was born July 16, 1925, in Enid to Howard and Edith Cooper and died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, in Inola. He attended Enid Public Schools. He enlisted in the Marine Corps Jan. 19, 1943. He fought in three major battles in the Southwest Pacific and was awarded the Purple Heart and Presidential Unit Citation. He was discharged Feb. 21, 1945, due to wounds he received. He married Helen Joanne Jantz Nov. 30, 1944, in Enid. They lived and farmed in the Carrier and Hennessey area 14 years. They moved to Wagoner in October of 1967. Surviving are his wife, Joanne of the home; two sons, Gary Cooper of Edmond and Jim Cooper of Wagoner; one daughter, Linda Adams of Enid; one brother, Imo Cooper of Tulsa; one sister, Delores Meyers of Fort Worth, Texas; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one granddaughter. |

© Enid News and Eagle Enid, Oklahoma May 16, 2017 January 5, 1926 ~ May 13, 2017 The graveside service celebrating the life of Mrs Helen Joanne Cooper, 84, Enid, formerly of Wagoner, is 10 a.m. Wednesday May 17, 2017, in Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Jeff Baker officiating. The service is under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. Helen was born January 5, 1926, in Goltry, to Clarence and Erdie Jantz, and passed from this life Saturday, May 13, 2017 in Enid. She grew up in Carrier while attending Carrier schools, graduating with the class of 1944. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hennessey. She worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. as a long distance operator in Enid until her true love, Marion J. Cooper, returned from the Marine Corps in World War II. They were married November 30, 1944, in Enid. They lived and farmed in the Carrier and Hennessey areas while raising their three children, until they moved to Fort Gibson Lake in the Wagoner area in October 1967. They were married 64 years until Marion's passing in December of 2008. JoAnne was a Life Member of the DAV Auxiliary. She is survived by her three children: only daughter Linda Adams of Enid; eldest son Gary Cooper and his wife Diane of Edmond; and youngest son Jim Cooper and his wife Roseann of Wagoner; grandson Randy Adams; granddaughter Robin Harmon and husband Stan, and great granddaughter Brittnee and husband Michael, great great granddaughter Lily Mae, and cousin Verna Mae Henthorn. She was preceded in death by her husband Marion, her sister Burhmaline McGuffee, one granddaughter Kristi Rogers, and son-in-law Leo Wayne Adams. Memorials can be made to the DAV and the Enid Humane Society, with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
