© Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Enid, Oklahoma May 10, 2006 November 18, 1931 ~ April 2, 2006 Hurshul P. Clothier was born to Ralph Thomas and Julia Edna [Clarkson] Clothier. He died in Lakeview Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mabel Good Clothier, his son and daughter-in-law, Michael P. and Judy [Brower] Clothier of McKinney, Texas, three granddaughters, Jennifer Marie Clothier, Sara [Clothier] Burt and Stephanie Marie Clothier, all living in the Dallas, Texas area. Other living relatives are his brother, "Bob" Clothier of Cody, Wyoming; a sister, Barbara Ann Barnes of Perkins, Oklahoma. Hurshul was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Bernard Clothier, Jim Clothier, and Bud Clothier; three sisters, Wilma Ecker, Joyce Windler and Faith Clothier. They lived in Woodward from 1953 to 1973, where he started the Oklahoma Travelers and had a radio program. He had a weekly TV show on Channel 5 here in Enid. When Hershul and Mabel moved to Eufaula, Oklahoma, they purchased land to build their home and the 1000-seat Belle Star Theater, where Hurshul hosted live musical events, the most well-known being the annual "Bob Wills Weekend" held in September for many years. Hurshul is most remembered for his career as a musician and bandleader of "The Oklahoma Travelers", a country western swing band of the 50s and 60s. Many well-known performers have shared the stage with Hurshul and his band, including Lefty Frizell, Glen Campbell, Freddie Hart, to name a few. But the one he treasured the most was when he provided backup for the late Bob Wills in 1967, and Wills asked him to play his fiddle. Hurshul was inducted into the Oklahoma Country Western Music Hall of Fame in Del City, Oklahoma in 1996. Just recently, he was notified that he is to be inducted into The Cowtown Society of Western Music in Fort Worth, Texas, and also into Oklahoma Western Swing Society in Yukon, Oklahoma. His latest album, "The Jam Session," was recorded in Golden, Colorado, in the classic Bob Wills western-swing style and was highlighted in the 1984 edition of "Country Music" magazine. Wayne Wade, reporter for the "Indian Journal" wrote of Hurshul Clothier in his article in the May, 26, 2005 edition, "This writer enjoyed Clothier's Bob Wills weekends every September and misses the swinging sound of twin fiddles that filled the air out on Texanna Road. A congenial host, Clothier joined The Playboys remnant on stage, played his fiddle and danced a jig. That's the image I have of him...sawing on that fiddle... For Clothier, it don't get no better than that." Services was held Wednesday, April 5, 2006, 1 p.m. at Ladusau-Evans Chapel with Wendell Cox, Checotah Hospice, officiating. Burial followed at the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. |
© Alva Review-Courier Enid, Oklahoma May 10, 2023 March 13, 1929 ~ May 6, 2023 A graveside service for Mabel May [Good] Clothier, age 94, of McKinney, Texas, formerly of Enid, Oklahoma, will be Friday, May 12, 2023, 2 pm, at Memorial Park Cemetery, 6405 Memorial Drive, Enid, with Reverend Jim Edmison officiating. Services are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home & Crematory. Mabel was born on the family farm near Belva, Oklahoma, on March 13, 1929, to Douglas and Francis [Kysar] Good, and passed away Saturday, May 6, 2023, in McKinney, Texas, where she resided for the last 15 years. Mabel graduated from high school in Waynoka, Oklahoma, then business school in Hutchinson, Kansas, where she studied bookkeeping. She worked as a professional bookkeeper for many years in Woodward and Eufaula, Oklahoma. Mabel married Hurshul Clothier in 1950. They lived in Woodward from 1953 to 1973, then moved to Eufaula, where they purchased land to build their home and the 1000+seat Belle Star Theater, where for many years they hosted live musical events, the most well-known being the annual "Bob Wills Weekend." Mabel and Hurshul enjoyed 55 years of marriage until his passing in April 2006. Mabel is survived by her son, Michael P. Clothier and his wife Judy, of McKinney, Texas; three granddaughters, Jennifer Redmond [Chris] of Burleson, Texas, Sara Burt [Pat] of McKinney, Texas, and Stephanie Clothier of Princeton, Texas; and four great grandchildren whom she loved very much. Her parents, her husband, three brothers, Vernon, Floyd, and Darrel and three sisters, Inez, Constance and Flora, precede her in death. © Enid News and Eagle Enid, Oklahoma December 11, 2019 October 25, 1936 ~ December 3, 2019 Funeral services for Jean Clothier, 83, of Cody, Wyoming, formerly of Enid, are 2:00 pm, Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home with Reverend Jim Edmison officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, December 13th from 7:00 - 8:00 pm. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Jean was born October 25, 1936 in Alva, Oklahoma and passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2019 in Cody, Wyoming. She attended Longfellow Junior High and worked at the movie theater. In 1952, Jean met Bob Clothier. Bob was living in Wichita, Kansas at the time, and he would drive to see Jean every weekend. Before too long, they fell in love. As their love grew, so did their family. Jean gave birth to two sons and a daughter. Throughout her life, she enjoyed dancing, waterskiing at Lake Tenkiller, shopping, sewing, baking, and taking vacations. She loved to sing, and was always happiest when family was around. Jean had a good and happy life; she was very loved and will be missed dearly. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Bob Clothier, of Muskogee, OK; two sons, Robert Clothier and wife Debi, of Wagoner, OK; Bruce Clothier, of Cody, WY; a daughter, Sandra Clothier, of Cody, WY; ten grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. |
