John A. Chisum
March 1, 1943 - January 5, 2012

The Funeral Services for Johnny Allen Chisum, “Papa John,” of Enid, Oklahoma will be on Tuesday, January 10th at 1:00 pm at the Brown Cummings Funeral Home Chapel in Enid, Oklahoma officiated by Pastor Jeremy Freeman of Newcastle, Oklahoma and Pastor Dave Evans of Moore, Oklahoma. Burial will follow in The Memorial Park Cemetery of Enid . Full Military Graveside rights will be conducted By the United Air Force Silver talon Honor Guard. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

Johnny Allen Chisum “Papa John” was born in Burneyville, Oklahoma on March 1, 1943 to Tony and Ethel Chisum and entered into rest on January 5, 2012. He was the ninth of eleven children.

He graduated from Leon High School in Leon, Oklahoma, in 1961 and then joined the Air Force. He served in Germany from 1961 to 1964. He was mobilized to Desert Storm in 1992 with the Air Force Reserves, which he served for sixteen years. He also attended Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma. He was employed at Vance Air Force Base from 1961 to 2005 as a contracted employee for Serve-Air, Northrop-Grumman, and DynCorp. He was the supervisor for the TRIM department, which tracked the progress of the student pilots at UPT. In addition to the base, he also owned his own contracting business, J&C Contracting and worked several other part-time jobs through his lifetime.

During his retirement he worked with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home assisting with funeral services.

John was a member of Bible Baptist Church where he enjoyed volunteering with the Teenie-Ager program, drove the church bus and sang in the choir. He also volunteered at numerous non-profit events for the American Cancer Society and the Camp Fire Girls.

John looked forward to an annual Chisum Family Reunion at the lake. He enjoyed traveling and going to antique shows, attending the Enid Men's Garden Club meetings and cooking “Papa Burgers.” However most of all he loved spending time with his five grandchildren.

John lived a selfless life and would do anything for anyone. He would put everyone before himself and lived a life to help and give comfort to others. He liked to pull practical jokes and tease others. He never met a stranger and would make friends wherever he went. Papa John blessed so many.

He was married to Ginger Campbell Chisum for nearly thirty years and had two daughters, Shelly Perkins of Moore, Oklahoma and Tamara Holland of Newcastle, Oklahoma.

John was preceded in death by parents: Tony James Chisum Sr. and Ethel Brewer Chisum; two brothers William Chisum and Tony Chisum Jr.; two sisters Alma Valceda, and Velma Jones. Surviving: Two daughters, Shelly Perkins and Tamara Holland. Scott and Shelly Perkins of Moore, Oklahoma, Richard and Tamara Holland of Newcastle, Oklahoma, five grandchildren: Courtney Shaw, Bailey Holland, Destiney Shaw, Caden Holland, and Katey Perkins. Surviving Siblings=Sisters: Lucille Sparks of Marietta, Oklahoma, Leona Hembree of Healdon, Oklahoma, Wanda Young of Mesquite, Texas, Betty Chisum of Durant, Oklahoma, Peggy Chisum, Gainesville, Texas and brother: Kenneth Chisum from Lovington, New Mexico and many nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous loved ones.

Memorials may be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Serving as custodians of the funds.
