Clifton was born May 3, 1937 in Enid to Rev. Alvin and Maurine ( Barron ) Chapman and died Tuesday, May 10, 2011 in The Commons. He was a grocer his entire working career, beginning at age 16 for Safeway for 32 years until ill health forced his retirement. He managed Safeway stores in Enid, Dodge City, Kansas, Woodward, Oklahoma, and transferred to the Oklahoma City Safeway division Offices as employee relations Officer. In 1957 he married Beverly McCoy. He was a member of Evangel Assembly of Enid. His father was a pastor and Clif was very proud of his Pentecostal heritage—growing-up at Northside Assembly of God and attending with his grandma Barron at First Assembly of God.

He retired to Enid with his wife Beverly and resided at the Commons until his death.

He is survived by his wife Beverly of the home, four children: Denetta Chapman of Enid, Denise Shirley and husband Jimmy of Yucca Valley, California, Clifton (Sonny) Chapman Jr. and wife Yvonda of Woodward, OK. and Devin Chapman of Enid. Five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and three sisters: Norma Franke and husband Nate of Norman, OK. , Carolyn Bauman and husband Harvey of Owasso, OK., and Sharon Pritchett and husband Toby of Enid. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved grandma Barron.
