Ronald Merle Chadd

Ronald Merle Chadd was born April 4, 1942, to Fred and Mary Chadd in Enid, Okla. He departed this world to be rejoined with his parents on Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, in Guthrie, Okla., after battling many health problems.

Ron grew up in the Pond Creek, Okla., area and graduated from Pond Creek High School in May 1960. After graduating high school, Ron enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1964. He served most of his time at the U.S. Army White Sands Missile Range. He was a part of the meteorological observation and repair program. After his service in the U.S. Army, he returned to Enid, where he attended Enid Business College and received his degree in advanced accounting.

While attending Enid Business College, he met and married Nancy Gaylord. While married to Nancy, they had three wonderful children. In July of 1968, Ron started his life long career as a grain elevator manager. He began his career at Hillsdale Equity in Hillsdale , Okla., then to Farmers Cooperative Elevator in Wakita, Okla. From there he moved to the Farmers Cooperative in Tonkawa, Okla., and he then went to Wheeler Brothers-Evans Elevator in Pampa, Texas. Ron ended his long career as grain elevator manager at Cimarron Elevator in Keyes, Okla.

Ron enjoyed many things but most of all he loved working at the grain elevator, drinking Dr. Pepper and smoking. Ron had made many friends in Keyes and loved putting on the annual farmer appreciation cookouts at the elevator in Keyes. After retiring in 2005, Ron moved to Guthrie to be closer to his family. While in Guthrie, he enjoyed watching westerns, going out to eat and watching Lady Jay basketball.

Ron is survived by his two sons, Jim Chadd and wife Melissa of Edna, Texas, and Ben Chadd and wife Annie of Guthrie, Okla.; one daughter, Kim Goldman and husband Todd of Amory, Miss.; and two sisters, Lois Gritz of Midwest City, Okla., and Joyce Pearson of Canyon, Texas. Ron also had eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mary Chadd.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at Guthrie Christian Church. Graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. in Memorial Park Cemetery in Enid, Okla. Ron will be laid next to his parents. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie, Okla.

The family would like to say a special thank you to all the nurses and staff at Golden Age Nursing Home in Guthrie for all the love and care they gave Ron during his illness.

Visitation will be held at 8 p.m. today at Smith-Gallo Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in Ron's name to Companion Hospice, 1314 East Oklahoma, Guthrie, OK 73044. Friends may sign the online guestbook at www.smithgallo.com.
