July 08, 1941 - January 03, 2019

The funeral service for Lona "Irene" Carey, 77 year-old Enid resident, is 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2019, in Liberty Southern Baptist Church. Dr. Matt Miles will officiate.

Burial follows in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.

Irene was born July 8, 1941, in Enid, to Clint and Doris (Horsley) Thrasher, and died Thursday, January 3, 2019, in her daughter's home in Katy, Texas.

She attended local schools and graduated from Enid High School with the class of 1959. She then attended the University of Oklahoma where she studied music and languages.

Irene worked as a medical transcriptionist at Bass Hospital for several years. She will always be remembered for her friendly demeanor and ready smile. She never met a stranger. She saw only the best in everyone.

Her friends and family were amazed at her ability to remember, names, birthdays, and historic information on almost everyone. She was kind and generous to all and was a strong Christian with an unwavering faith.

She is survived by her daughter Ann Hicks and husband Jason of Katy, TX. Four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Gene and Clint Thrasher; and two sisters-in-law, Jane and Janice.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Gary Thrasher.
