Lona "Irene" Thrasher Carey
July 8, 1941 ~ January 3, 2019


Lona “Irene” Carey, 77 year-old Enid resident, was born July 8, 1941 in Enid to Clint and Doris [Horsley] Thrasher and died Thursday, January 3, 2019 in her daughter's home in Katy, Texas.

She attended local schools and graduated from Enid High School with the class of 1959. She then attended the University of Oklahoma where she studied music and languages.

Irene worked as a medical transcriptionist at Bass Hospital for several years.

She will always be remembered for her friendly demeanor and ready smile. She never met a stranger. She saw only the best in everyone. Her friends and family were amazed at her ability to remember, names, birthdays, and historic information on almost everyone. She was kind and generous to all and was a strong Christian with an unwavering faith.

She is survived by her daughter Ann Hicks and husband Jason of Katy, TX. Four grandchildren, one great grandchild, two brothers, Gene and Clint Thrasher, and two sisters in laws, Jane and Janice.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Gary Thrasher.

Funeral service: Wednesday, January 9, 2019 in Liberty Southern Baptist Church. Dr Matt Miles will officiate.

Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.
