© Enid News and Eagle Enid, Oklahoma June 19. 2003 October 12, 1920 ~ June 18, 2003 The funeral for Donald C. Canaday, 82, will be 10 a.m. Friday in the First Assembly of God. The Revs Dan Barrick, Robert Florence and Burton Pierce will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. He was born October 12, 1920, in Elkhart, Kansas, to Gilbert and Clara Stiggens Canaday and died Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at his home in Enid. He graduated from Dodge City High School. On November 30, 1941, he married Martha E. Frey at Dodge City. He served in the Navy during World War II on a subchaser PC 490. After his Navy service, the couple lived in Dodge City, moving to Enid in 1970. He worked for Santa Fe Railroad for more than 45 years. He was a member of First Assembly of God. Surviving are his wife, Martha of the home; two daughters, Cynthia Fest of Disney, Okla., and Janet Canaday of Enid; one brother, Jack W. of Wichita; one sister, Marjorie Hildebrand of Stafford, Kan.; and two grandsons. Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the church or to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Kidney Division. |

Canaday, age 90, was born to Fred and Mary [Unsell] Frey on April 18, 1921, in Garden City KS and died September 28, 2011, in Enid OK. Martha grew up on a farm near Dodge City KS and graduated from Dodge City High School. On November 30, 1941, she married Donald C. Canaday in Dodge City, where they made their home, before moving to Enid in 1970. Martha was a branch manager with Stanley Home Products for 54 years. She was a member of Enid First Assembly of God Church. Martha is survived by two daughters, Cindy Fest and husband Gary of Ketchum OK, and Janet Canaday and husband Monty Shaklee of Enid; two grandsons, Rick Tribble, and Chris Tibble and wife Lacey; three great grandchildren, Shelton, Anna, and Levi. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald, one brother, and four sisters. |
