Byrd, 77-year-old former Enid resident is 11:00 AM Saturday, April 15, 2023, in the Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev Jim Lang officiating. There will be a private family burial preceding the service in Memorial Park Cemetery. Viewing will be from 8 AM-8 PM Friday at the funeral home. Wesley was born October 7, 1945, in Carlsbad, NM. to Archie and Bertha [Hobbs] Byrd and died Friday, April 7, 2023, in his home in Norman. OK. Wesley graduated from Artesia High School with the class of 1963. That same year he married his high school sweetheart Joyce Long. The couple lived in LA, NM, and Texas, where he earned his B.D. at Arlington Baptist College in 1975. The couple settled in Enid in 1981. Rev Byrd was the minister at Bethel Baptist Church for 40 years. His wife Joyce ran the K-12 Bethel Academy along beside him. He ran the radio station KBVV for 18 years. He was also active in the YMCA. Joyce preceded him in death in 2019 and he later married Barbara Taylor and the couple lived in Norman. Wesley is survived by his wife Barbara of the home, children, Betsy Randolph and husband George of Guthrie, Brian Byrd and wife Amy of Palacios, TX. and Brent Byrd and wife Jennifer of Enid: Grandchildren, John Byrd and wife Amanda,; Robert Byrd; Bronson Randolph and wife Kiara; Whitney Sanders and husband, Gus; Kelsey Byrd and partner Braden Scott. Great grandchildren, Jacob Randolph; Ava Grace Randolph; Canon Sanders; Meadow Sanders; Garrett Elliott; and Hank Byrd. two brothers, Bob and wife Cathy and Mickey and wife Teresa as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Joyce, and a sister. |

A private family burial will precede the service in Memorial Park Cemetery. Viewing will be held 8:00 am - 8:00 pm Wednesday and Thursday at the funeral home. Joyce was born April 27, 1950 in Artesia, NM to Charles Thomas and Mildred Elizabeth [Adams] Long and went to be with her Lord and Savior August 15, 2019 at her home in Enid. She graduated Artesia High School in 1968, later that same year Joyce married the love of her life Wesley Dee Byrd. She then attended Arlington Baptist University where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Education. The couple lived in TX, LA and NM; before moving to Enid in 1981 and making it their home. Joyce was a long time member of Bethel Baptist Church where she served as a Preacher's Wife, Sunday School Teacher and Mentor for many. She also taught K-12 at Bethel Baptist Academy where she touched so many young lives over the years. She was an UNO card-shark, and Jeopardy & Wheel of Fortune whiz. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, crocheting; reading books of all genres and most of all she loved spending time with her family. Joyce is survived by her husband, Wesley of Enid; children, Brian Byrd and wife, Amy of Cibolo, TX; Betsy Randolph and husband, George of Guthrie; Brent Byrd and wife, Jennifer of Enid; grandchildren, John Byrd and fiancé, Amanda Hackett; Robert Byrd; Bronson Randolph and wife, Kiara; Whitney Sanders and husband, Gus; Kelsey Byrd and Alyssa Link; great-grandchildren, Jacob Randolph; Cannon Sanders; Meadow Sanders and Garrett Elliott; brothers, Joe Tom Long; Charlie Long and Eddie Long; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Rita Leachman and brother, Jerry Long. Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church where she served for 37 years. Philippines September 1, 1979 September 15, 1953 ~ September 1, 1979 "All people are good, but better are none than all the seniors of '71!" Gone but never forgotten. EHS Class of 1971 Services for 1st LT. Mary Ann Byrd, 25, were at 10:30 a.m. today in the Ladusau Evans Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev Ron Irons and the Rev Richard Duckworth conducted the rites. Born September 15, 1953 at Vance Air Force Base, she attended Monroe and Emerson Junior High schools. She graduated from Enid High School in 1971. She also attended O. T. Autry Vo Tech, Southwestern State College in Weatherford and graduated with a B.S.N. degree from Central State University in 1975. Miss Byrd worked as a registered nurse in the Intensive Care Units of Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa as well as hospitals in Denver and Longmont Colorado. She joined the Air Force in 1978 and received her first assignment to the Phillipines June, 1978. She died September 1, 1979 at Clark Air Force Base in the Phillipines. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery. Survivors include her mother Mae Bonnett, Enid; father and step mother Mr and Mrs Charles W. Byrd Sr, Samson, Alabama; one brother Charles "Chuck", Enid; one half sister, Gayla Marie Bonnett of the home; maternal grandmother, Farol Massie, Enid; paternal grandparents, Mr and Mrs J. W. Byrd, Samson, Alabama; one niece, Amie Dea Byrd; one nephew, Charles Michael Byrd and a number of relatives. A student fund has been established in her name at Central State University School of Nursing. Ladusau Evans Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and will act as custodian of the fund. |
