Phyllis Ann (Collier) Buss, age 66, of Hunter passed away January 10, 2008, at her home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Enid. Arrangements are under the direction of Laduasu-Evans Funeral Home.

Phyllis was born September 3, 1941, in Elk City to Harley C. and Ruth (Peter) Collier. She lived in Covington during her grade school years and moved to Hunter where she graduated in 1959. There she met her husband, Earl Buss, and they married December 27, 1960. They were married 38 years before he passed away in October of 1999. She attended and graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1963, with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She later went back to get her Master’s Degree in Special Education from Oklahoma State University. She taught in Enid at Harrison Elementary from 1963-1966. She then taught the remainder of her 35 years of teaching in the Hunter and later Pond Creek-Hunter school systems until she retired in 1998.

She was a member of the Hunter Christian Church where she served as a Deaconess and loved to sing in the choir. She was also a lifetime member of the O.E.A. and N.E.A. She served as president of the Gelbvieh Gals Cattle Associa-tion. She volunteered for various activities that revolved around agriculture or sports activities during the school year including being a cheerleading sponsor a couple of years. She enjoyed working with kids, had fond memories of every student she taught and would often tell of how she taught a parent and child and how special that was to her.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves behind her son, Steve Buss and wife, Donna, of Hunter; her daughter, Sherri Hooker and husband, Chris, of Enid; grandchildren Audrey, Caitlin and Cody; sister, Norma (Jody) Collier, of Edmond; in-laws, Merle, Karen, Ed, Linda, Dennis and Valerie Buss; and several nieces and nephews.
