Funeral services for Bill W. Bushnell, age 77, of Enid, will be 10 AM today at the Davis Park Christian Church with Rev. Alan Seibel and Rev. Rick Bushnell and other family members officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau – Evans Funeral Home.

Bill was born April 1, 1925, at Cherokee, Oklahoma to William L. And Minnie M. Blanchard Bushnell and passed away Tuesday in St. Mary's Regional Medical Center after complications of open-heart surgery. He moved to Enid at the age of two with his family. He attended Enid public schools graduating from high school in the class of 1942. He started working at the George E. Failing Company in August and entered the Army in May 1943. He came home from Camp Maxey, Texas on a three – day pass and married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis E. Smith on October 16, 1943. She returned with him to Camp. He shipped to England on February 1, 1944 and landed on Omaha Beach D+ 6 with headquarters, Bat. 406TH Field Artillery, Vth Corps, 1st Army. He earned five Battle Stars across Europe and finished the war in Czechoslovakia and returned home December 18, 1945. Bill returned to Failings in January 1946.

Bill enlisted in the 189th Field Artillery Battalion, 45th Infantry Division in November 1949 and was called to active duty for the Korean War August 1, 1950. They served in Louisiana, Japan and Korea and he returned home in May 1952. He then served with the 45th Division artillery until 1967. He finished his military career in the local Reserves Transportation Battalion and entered the Retired Reserve in 1970 as a Lt. Col.

Bill left the Failing Company after 19 years of service and was ordained to the Christian Ministry by the Davis Park Christian Church in Enid on December 10, 1961. He served as Minister of Education and Visitation. He also attended Phillips University where he enrolled in selective courses. He served the church for 5 1/2 years after which he began serving part – time churches as Minister. He pastored churches in Ponca City, Deer Creek, Waukomis, Medford, and Pleasant Vale in Enid. During this time he worked two more years at Failing and 17 years at the O. T. Autry Area Vocational – Technical Center as Industrial Coordinator. He retired from the Vo – Tech Center in May 1986 and has worked as a volunteer in Vance Air Force Clinic.

His wife Phyllis of the home; two sons, Minister Rick and his wife Sheryl Bushnell of Joplin, Missouri, Minister Chris and his wife Diane Bushnell of Louisville, Kentucky; daughter Cindi and her husband Ron Elerick, Circuit Writers Missionary, of Boise, Idaho; 11 grandchildren; eight great – grandchildren, and sister – in – law, Wanda Bushnell of Enid survive him.

He was preceded in death by a brother Melvin, sisters Wilma Wentworth and Helen Beckham.

August 18, 1924 - September 17, 2021

Phyllis E. Bushnell, age 97, of Joplin, Mo., a longtime resident of Enid, OK, passed away at 2:59 p.m. Thursday, September 17, 2021, at Spring River Christian Village in Joplin.

Phyllis was born August 18, 1924, in Osborne, KS, and had lived in Enid until she moved to Joplin in 2008. Phyllis was employed as a Bookkeeper for the Lambert's Clothing Store in Enid for 26 years, retiring in 1993. She was a member of the College Heights Christian Church in Joplin and served on the Cheerleaders Ministry. She also volunteered at American Rehabilitation Ministry in Joplin. She was a longtime member of the Davis Park Christian Church in Enid. Phyllis assisted her husband, Bill Bushnell, in Christian Ministry in several Oklahoma towns including Enid, Ponca City, Deer Creek, Waukomis, Medford, and Pleasant Vale.

Phyllis married Bill Bushnell on October 16, 1943, in Enid. He preceded her in death on September 3, 2002. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Charlene Williams, and a granddaughter, Susan McQueen. Survivors include two sons, Rick Bushnell (Sheryl), Joplin, MO, and Chris Bushnell (Diane), Louisville, KY; one daughter, Cindi Elrick-Real (Freddy), Boise, ID; 11 Grandchildren and 20 Great-Grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4-5 p.m. Monday at the Mason-Woodard Chapel in Joplin, followed by a time of sharing at 5 p.m. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Enid.

Memorial contributions are requested to the Circuit Riders Ministry in care of the Mortuary. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, MO.
