Lawrence Charles Burhenn was born Aug. 7, 1919, to Charles and Minnie Burhenn on a farm in Stafford County, north of Stafford, Kan.

He graduated from high school at Turon, Kan., in 1938. After graduation, he worked for Midwest Grain Co. until entry into military service in February 1942.

He married Eva Hazen on Oct. 3, 1942, at the Ralph Hazen home. Ray Bresher, Turon Methodist minister performed the ceremony. To this union two daughters were born. Ann was born Oct. 4, 1943, and Martha was born Jan. 19, 1947.

Lawrence was discharged from the Army Air Corps on Nov. 23, 1945, in Montgomery, Ala. He then went to work for Ben Raines, who had been manager of Midwest Grain prior to World War II. Ben and Harold Walraven had acquired the John Deere Machinery and named the business the Turon Farm Supply. He worked at this until Aug. 16, 1950, when he was recalled to active duty with the U.S. Air Force. He remained in service until April 30, 1967, when he retired. He served on the island of Okinawa and France. He was an aircraft mechanic during his active career.

After retirement, he worked for Civil Service at Perrin Air Force base in North Texas for 30 months, then he worked for an aircraft contractor at Vance Air Force base in Enid, Okla., until he retired in 1985.

He and Eva traveled all over the U.S. for about 34 years. Eva lost her battle with cancer in November 1999.

On June 28, 2001, he married Dulcie Hankey Towry in Brenham, Texas. He and Dulcie had graduated from Turon High in 1938. She had lost her mate, Russell Towry, a Christian minister, in 1995.

Lawrence disposed of the home at 2816 West Randolph in the fall of 2001, and he and Dulcie resided in Kruse Village, a retirement complex in Brenham, Texas, until her death in April 2012. After her death, Lawrence moved to assisted living in Sherman, Texas.

Lawrence passed to new life March 18, 2015, in Sherman, Texas.

Survivors include one brother, Clifford (Bonnie) Burhenn of Canon City, Colo.; sister, Emma Rupp of Tacoma, Wash.; two daughters, Ann Keeling (Gary Ruback) of Sherman, Texas, and Martha (Larry) Linville of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; and two granddaughters, Darla Linville (Kristen Gilbert) of Augusta, Ga., and Heather Linville of La Crosse, Wis.
