Zosima "Susie" Mercurio Burdg, 84, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2009, in Norman, Oklahoma. Funeral Services will be at 1:00pm, Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Henninger Funeral Home in Enid, with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Burdg was born March 11, 1925, in Pastrana Leyte, Philippines. During WWII, she met and married Harvey Thomas Burdg, a handsome soldier in the US Army who was stationed near her village. At the end of his tour of duty, Harvey returned to Leyte to take her and their baby daughter, Emma Sue, to begin their new life in Hennessey, Oklahoma, where their son, Harvey, Jr., was born. They moved to Enid in 1947 where they had two daughters, Violeta "Vi" and Letitia "Tish". Susie energetically cared for her four children and took pride in raising them in America. She worked very hard at learning English so she could work and help with the family income.

Becoming a citizen of the United States was very important to her and in 1957, she and her daughter, Emma Sue, both became citizens. From the time she began working, she was involved with her childrens' activities. She volunteered with her daughters' Blue Birds and Campfire Girls groups, cheerleading and drum and bugle corps activities and her son's Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts groups, baseball, football games as well as music lessons. Susie and Harvey welcomed their children's friends into their home and always had a "Full House". Harvey, Jr. began guitar lessons at an early age and eventually formed his band, "Harvey -- The Wallbangers".

She was a member of Davis Park Christian Church and the church choir and CWF where she sang many solos during services. She was also a member of American Business Womens' Association, held office and helped with many fundraising activities. Susie's love of being around people led to her many years of volunteering for RSVP and St. Mary's Hospital's gift shop.

Mrs. Burdg was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Rudy; husband, Harvey, Sr.; daughters, Violeta and Emma Sue and son, Harvey, Jr.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Letitia "Tish" and Ed Marek of Norman, daughter-in-law, Linda Burdg of Oklahoma City, grandchildren, Brad Love and his fiancee, Therese Hellkas and their daughter, Emma Grace Love of Oslo, Norway; Trey and Rina Marek and son, Steele of Norman; Megan (Marek) and Rod Sanders and their children, Alexis, Sophi and Addox of Norman; Bevin Burdg and her sons, Chandler and Keaton of Oklahoma City, Aaron Burdg and Catherine Burdg of Oklahoma City. She is also survived by brothers, Miguel Murcurio, Yolo Mercurio and their families, sisters-in-law, Marie Burdg, Lora Knox and Vera Lou Burdg, Georgeana Mercurio and their families.
