ENID, Okla. — Gloria Joan “Jody” Buckminster was born Aug. 26, 1932, to John Paul and Mary Elizabeth Fowler in Ashland, Neb.

To be closer to family, they moved to Enid, Okla., during her freshman year of high school. She thoroughly enjoyed her high school years and maintained many of her Enid High School friends. These ladies, also known as the Golden Girls, still meet once a month, reminiscing their “golden” years.

Jody and her husband, Neal Dean Buckminster, were united in marriage on Easter Sunday, April 13, 1952. They made their home on a farm near Lahoma, Okla., where they lived and raised their four children: Jamie, Mitch, Fred and Sherry.

Jody was a devoted wife and mother and was extremely involved in all aspects of their children’s lives. They resided on the farm in the Lahoma community until their retirement in 2002, when they moved to Kingfisher, Okla.

From leading 4-H groups, exhibiting her canning and sewing skills at the fair, helping with the family cattle operations, singing and directing the choir at church, Jody inspired many with her ability to lead with dignity and grace.

While helping her husband farm, she worked part-time as a leading supervisor for the Oklahoma Agriculture Statistics Department for 32 years, until the age of 80. She spent countless hours gathering data from farmers and ranchers all over northwest Oklahoma, where she was recognized as one of the top supervisors in the state of Oklahoma.

Jody loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and now her great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and all the lives that she touched.

Jody is survived by daughter, Jamie Briscoe and husband Randy of Kingfisher; son, Mitch Buckminster and wife Pam of Enid; daughter, Sherry Breedlove and husband Joe of Skiatook, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her only sister, and son, Fred Buckminster.

Jody is interred at Sanders Funeral Service Inc. in Kingfisher, Okla.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today, Aug. 12, 2014, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Enid, Okla. The service will be open to anyone who would like to attend.

Memorial donations may be made to: Federated Church of Kingfisher, 400 W. Fay Ave., Kingfisher, OK 73750.
