June 12, 1939 - October 7, 2019

Celebration of life service for Gerhard John "GJ" Brune, 80, of Enid, will be 2:00PM, Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Dwayne Schroeder officiating and Rev. Barry Robinson assisting. Burial with military honors will be at 11:00AM in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday evening 5:30PM-7:00PM, at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.

GJ was born June 12, 1939 in Cherokee, Oklahoma to Elmer and Gertrude (Rauh) Brune, and passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at his home.

GJ grew up on the family farm and graduated from Enid High School. He was baptized at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Cherokee and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Lahoma. After graduation he served in the United States Army. On September 2, 1962 he married Marlene Hildebrandt in Zion Lutheran Church, in Fairmont. They made their home in Iowa for over thirty years. Later they moved back to Oklahoma. During this time GJ served full time in the National Guard in Illinois and Oklahoma. Once moving back to Enid, he began working for PT Coupling. He was still working full time and had been there for over 33 years. GJ was a farmer all of his life. GJ was an active member at Redeemer Lutheran Church, serving as an elder, usher, he sang in the choir and was head of the building committee.

GJ is survived by his wife Marlene; daughter Jil and husband Ghent Hopkins of Enid; 3 grandchildren, Emily (Alfonso) Reyes, Eli (Danita) Parrish, Evan (Selena) Parrish; 4 step grandchildren, Cody (Sherbet) Hopkins, Casey, Cameron, and Jenny Hopkins; 5 great grandchildren, Sophie, Maya, Esme, Luna, and Ariana ; brothers Paul and wife Ramona of Lawton, and Carl and wife Julia of Tulsa.

He was preceded in death by his son Troy, parents, in-laws Henry and Edna, sister Caroline, 2 brothers John and Delmer, and his grandpa Gerhard Brune who lived with his family.
