Elizabeth Ann Marshall Brousse

December 7, 1936 - May 12, 2021

Elizabeth was a vibrant, compassionate and independent spirit who was suddenly called to Heaven. Born and raised in Enid, she had an exceptional, tight-knit group of wonderful friends who have remained close.

Upon graduating from Enid H.S. in 1954, she was one of two students to be accepted to Stanford University. Off she went to pursue a degree in Political Science. While on the debate team, she met Albert C. Brousse, whom she married in 1958. Their early years included international travel while pursuing careers and raising two daughters. Albert was an International Exchange Professor and Elizabeth earned her teaching credential.

After living in London and San Francisco, the family settled in Marin County, CA, which was home for the next 40 years. Elizabeth worked as an English teacher and school counselor at Tamalpais High School. She then used her extensive travel knowledge to build a career as a travel writer, consultant, and tour director. Adventure travel was a passion, and she loved to share her finds. Her appreciation of cultural diversity propelled her to earn a second credential in English as a Second Language (ESL), which she taught at College of Marin until retirement.

Longing to be closer to her grandchildren, Elizabeth moved to Templeton. She found the beauty of the Central Coast to be "incredible" and delighted in it. Community oriented, she was active with Friends of the Library, AAUW, Mothers for Peace and United Methodist Women. Spirituality was her touchstone. Fun-loving and vivacious, her laughter lit up the room. She was a devoted mother who treasured her family and friends. We will love and miss her forever.

Survived by her children, Katherine Brousse Porebski (Arthur Porebski) Nevada City, CA, Maria Brousse Kindel, Morro Bay, CA, grandchildren, Sierra and Landon Kindel. Proceeded in death by parents, V.O. and Vivian H. Marshall, and brother, William (Bill) Marshall, Enid, OK.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on July 23rd at Memorial Park Cemetery, 6405 Memorial Drive, Enid, OK.

Donations can be made in her memory to Enid High School or Enid SPCA.
