© Enid News and Eagle Enid, Oklahoma June 6, 2021 December 7, 1936 ~ May 12, 2021 Elizabeth Ann Marshall Brousse was a vibrant and independent spirit with a lust for life. She was unexpectedly and gracefully called to heaven on May 12, 2021 at her home in Templeton, CA. Born in Enid, Oklahoma, Elizabeth experienced an exceptional, tight-knit community of wonderful and supportive friends who've remained close throughout their lives. After graduation from Enid High School in 1954, she was one of two students to be accepted to Stanford University. Off she went to pursue a degree in Political Science. While on the debate team, she met Albert Charles Brousse, whom she married upon graduating in 1958. Their early years included international travel while pursuing careers and raising two daughters. Albert was an International Exchange Professor and Elizabeth earned her teaching credential. After living in London and San Francisco, the family settled in Marin County, CA in 1970, which was home for the next 40 years. Elizabeth worked as an English teacher and school counselor at Tamalpais High School for 10 years. She then used her extensive travel knowledge to build a career as a travel writer, consultant, and tour director in the 1980's. Travel was her biggest passion and she loved to share her experiences and international finds. She appreciated all aspects of cultural diversity, propelling her to earn a second credential in English as a Second Language [ESL]. From the mid 1990's to 2009 she was an instructor at the SF County Jail and College of Marin. Longing to be closer to her young grandchildren, Elizabeth retired to Templeton, CA. She found the beauty of the Central Coast to be "incredible" and delighted in it all. Community oriented, she was active with Friends of the Library, AAUW and held leadership positions with Mothers for Peace and the local United Methodist Women. Elizabeth had a brilliant and inquisitive mind, with a thirst for knowledge and inspiration. Devotion and spirituality were her touchstones. She was a lifelong environmental and social justice activist. Fun-loving and vivacious, her laughter lit up the room. She was a devoted mother who treasured her family and friends. We will love and miss her forever. Survived by her two children, Katherine Elizabeth Brousse Porebski [Arthur M. Porebski] and Maria Cristina Brousse Kindel, grandchildren, Sierra Elizabeth Kindel and Landon William Kindel, along with extended family members. Proceeded in death by parents, V.O. and Vivian H. Marshall, and brother, William "Bill" Marshall, Enid, OK. Final resting place will be alongside her beloved family at Memorial Park Cemetery in Enid, OK. Donations can be made in Elizabeth's memory to Mothers for Peace, HANDS in Nepal or Pacific Wildlife Care. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on July 23rd at Memorial Park Cemetery, 6405 Memorial Drive, Enid, OK. Donations can be made in her memory to Enid High School or Enid SPCA. |
