© Enid Morning News Enid, Oklahoma July 1973 December 8, 1892 ~ July 16, 1973 Hunter - Services for Roscoe Paul "R.P." Bonnett, 81, will be held at 2 PM Thursday in the Hunter Christian church, with Rev. Leroy McReynolds officiating. Burial will follow in Enid's Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Anderson Funeral Home of Garber. Bonnett died Monday evening at his home in Hunter of a heart attack. He was born December 8, 1892 at Smith Center, Kansas. He came to Oklahoma with his parents, the late Mr and Mrs John Bonnett, who settled on a farm west of Kremlin in 1895. His first schooling was a pioneer country school Wildhorse, west of Kremlin. Bonnett lived there 14 years. In 1906 he moved with his parents to a farm southwest of Hunter, continuing his schooling there. On January 19, 1915, he married Lottie Borneman, with the couple establishing their home in the Hunter community. Bonnett had been a member of the Hunter Christian Church since 1916. At the time of his death he was serving as church treasurer. He was a charter member of the Hunter Lions Club and served on the Hunter school board for 30 years. The Bonnett's retired from the farm in 1958, moving to their present home in Hunter. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary January 19, 1965, in the same home that his father and mother celebrated there's in 1942. © Enid Morning News Enid, Oklahoma August 1976 March 24, 1894 ~ August 8, 1976 Hunter – The funeral for Mrs Charlotte M. "Lottie" Bonnett, 82, who died Sunday night in an Idabel hospital, will be at 2 PM Wednesday at Hunter Christian Church with the Rev Lloyd Lambert, Enid, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with arrangements by Anderson Funeral Home. Born March 24, 1894 near Inman, Kansas, she moved with her parents in 1901 to the Garber - Hunter area. On January 19, 1915, she married Roscoe Bonnett in Enid and they made their home southwest of Hunter. In 1958, they moved to Hunter. Mrs. Bonnett had been ill since her husband died in 1973. For the past eight months, she had lived with her son, Gerald, in Idabel. She was a member of the Hunter Christian Church. Survivors include four sons, Linwood, of Hunter, Wesley and Eugene, both of Enid, and Gerald, of Idabel; two sisters, Mrs Elsie Peterson, Oakland, California, and Mrs Eleanor Montgomery, Santa Rosa, California; one brother, Clarence Borneman, Sierra Madre, California; 13 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren. |
© Enid Morning News Enid, Oklahoma July 1974 September 2, 1901 ~ July 9, 1974 Funeral services for Leon M. Bonnett, 72, 1725 E. Oak, will be conducted at 2 PM Thursday in the Henninger-Allen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev Sterling W. Williams and the Rev Marvin F. Leven officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Elks Lodge will conduct the graveside rites. Bonnett died early Tuesday morning after a short period of ill health. He was born September 2, 1901, on a farm north of Kremlin. He attended the Wild Horse School, north of Kremlin, and in 1913 moved to Enid and attended schools here. Bonnett was a partner in the Heads Shoes Store and later worked in the Booterie, which is now Oliver's. He managed Oliver's until his retirement in 1968. On December 1, 1973, in Enid, he married Marie Davis. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Elks Lodge, which named him Elk of the year in 1973, and the Moose Lodge. He was preceded in death by a former wife, Thelma, one brother and one sister. Survivors include his wife, Marie, of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Stanford (Carolyn Kay) Earley, Enid; five grandchildren; one sister, Mrs Jack [Glenda M.] Oakley, Enid; one niece and one nephew. |

Steddum Bonnett will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2011, at Memorial Park Cemetery. Andy Teague will officiate. Services are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. There will be a time of visitation with family present Sunday, July 24, 2011, from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home. Reba was born September 8, 1917, in Hunter, Oklahoma, to George and Alva [Brower] Mallender. She moved to Enid at the age of seven and attended Enid Public Schools, graduating in 1935. In 1937, she married John J. Steddum, and to this union two daughters were born, Beverly and Debi. They owned and operated Steddums Grocery in North Enid for 25 years. John passed away in 1968, and she moved into Enid. Reba then went to work for George E. Failing for the next 20 years. In 1974, she married Wesley G. Bonnett, and he died in 1986. In 1992, she began working part-time for RSVP. Since 1951, she had been a member of First Baptist Church. Reba was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She was preceded in death by her parents and both husbands. Reba is survived by her daughters, Beverly Gaede of North Enid and Debi Stockwell of Edmond; three grandchildren, Lance Gaede of Yukon, Scott Gaede of Enid and Jamie Zink of Tulsa; six great-grandchildren; two stepchildren, Jan Greer of Enid and David Bonnett of Hunter; three step grandchildren and one bonus child, Bennie Mullins. Memorials can be given in Reba's name to RSVP or First Baptist Church with Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home acting as custodians of the fund. Bonnett, age 81 of Hunter, will be 2 PM Saturday afternoon, July 22, 2000 in the Hunter Christian Church. Rev Don Johnson and Rev Scott Spencer will officiate. Burial will follow in the Chapel of Memorial Park Cemetery of Enid. Arrangements are with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. He was born December 7, 1918 on the family farm near Hunter to Rosco and Lottie Borneman Bonnett and died late Wednesday evening, July 19, 2000 in Integris Bass Baptist Health Center. L. D. was a graduate of Hunter High School in 1937. In 1930, he was baptized with his future wife, Betty Buss at the Hunter Christian Church. They were later married on August 3, 1941 on her parent's farm west of Hunter. She preceded him in death on December 18, 1995 at her home in Hunter. He was a lifelong farmer that devoted all his life to his work, family and his community. For a short time, he owned the Hunter Food Locker Plant while still farming. L. D. Was a Junior Deacon, Deacon and Elder of the Hunter Christian Church. Also he was the superintendent of the Church Sunday Schools, retired Volunteer Fireman for Hunter, former Pres. of the Hunter Senior Citizens and Free Fair, and a member of the Hunter Gun and Saddle Club. He helped start and was president of the Hunter Rural Water Association, president of the Hunter P. T. A. and Sportsman's Club, honorary member of the Young Farmers Association and a 30-year charter member of the Hunter Lions Club. He is survived by three daughters, Frances Spencer and husband Allen, Judy Bonnett and Vicki Calsing and husband Don all of Enid; one son, Rick Bonnett of Hunter; eight grandchildren, Rev Scott Spencer of Lone Wolf, Oklahoma, Stephanie Spencer, Tammy Lang and husband Scott all of Enid, Karissa Brown and husband Kelly of Claremore, Dustin Bonnett and Tyler Bonnett both of Pierre, South Dakota, Mellissa Waltz and husband Kevin and Mendy Calsing all of Enid; six great grandchildren, Caleb and Cameron Lang, Brinley Brown, Megan Waltz, Chandler and Julian Calsing, and two brothers, Gene Bonnett of Enid, and Gerald Bonnett of Idabell, Oklahoma. L. D. Was preceded in death by his wife Betty, parents, one brother, Wesley Bonnett, one grandson, Michael Shawn Spencer and one aunt, Leona Staggers. © Enid Morning News Enid, Oklahoma August 1969 September 28. 1925 ~ August 24, 1969 Hunter - Funeral services for Mrs Wesley [Joy] Bonnett, 43, who died Wednesday evening in an Enid hospital after a period of ill health, will be at 2:30 PM Sunday in the Hunter Christian church. Rev Ed Faxon will officiate and burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the Anderson Funeral Home of Garber. Mrs Bonnett was born September 28, 1925, in Enid and grew up in the Hunter community where she attended school. After graduation she entered nurses' training and on December 28, 1943, she was married to Wesley Bonnett in Louisville, Kentucky. Following World War II they settled on a farm southwest of Hunter, later moving north of Hunter. She was a member of the Christian Church and was active in church, school and community affairs. She is survived by her husband Wesley of the home; one daughter, Janette, of the home; two sons, Bruce and David, both of the home; her parents Mr and Mrs S. A. Whitmire, Hunter; a brother, W. D. Whitmire, Santa Rosa, California. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation in Mrs Bonnett's memory. Anderson Funeral Home, Garber, will act as custodians of the fund. |
© Enid News and Eagle Enid, Oklahoma December 26, 2013 December 12, 1929 ~ December 4, 2013 Memorial service for Merna Mae “Mae” Bonnett will be 1 p.m. Saturday, December 28, 2013, at Willow Road Christian Church. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mae was born December 12, 1929, to Earnest C. and Farol [Baker] Massie of rural Nash, Okla., and passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 4, 2013, in San Antonio, Texas. Mae graduated from Nash High School in 1948, after which she attended Enid Business College. She was employed at Montgomery Ward and at T&W Tire Co. in Enid, where she loved her fellow employees and customers. Mae enjoyed gardening, fishing, puzzles, bookkeeping and spending time with her family and friends who appreciated her fun personality and witty sense of humor. Mae is survived by two children, Charles W. “Chuck” Byrd and wife, Mary, and Gayla Marie Williamson and husband, Bob; six grandchildren, Amie Rodgers (Brian), Michael Byrd [Emily], Kasey Zaloudek [T.J.], Kelly Byrd, Rachel Galbreath [Kevin] and Tyler Williamson; five greatgrandchildren, Blake and Kylie Rodgers and Madison, Macie and Ethan Byrd; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Erna Marie Borth and Bobbie Jean Short; and a daughter, Mary Ann Byrd. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to donor's choice. |

Bonnett, 60, will be at noon on October 6, 2005 in Emmanuel Baptist Church with Pastor Wade Burleson officiating. Private family graveside services will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory. Judy was born on April 19, 1945 in St. Mary’s Hospital in Enid to L.D. and Betty Buss Bonnett and died October 3, 2005 in her home in Enid. The family farm and original home was three miles south and one mile west of Hunter. They moved into Hunter when she was two years old. Judy attended all 12 years at Hunter, graduating in 1963. She was active in all activities in school, she was known for her abilities in sports basketball and softball, band, and 4-H projects. After high school, Judy attended N.O.C. in Tonkawa, Oklahoma for two years, then transferred to Central State College in Edmond, Oklahoma. Judy graduated with a B.S. degree in education. After graduation, she taught school in Putnam City, worked at the state capital, and Oklahoma City summer sports program. In the early 1970’s she moved to Springfield, MO and taught elementary and physical education. She delivered bass and pontoon boats for "Outdoor World" in the summers traveling all over the U.S. She sold new and used cars for Chevy and Nissan, earning “Salesman of the Month" at one time! After her mother took ill, she returned to the area, 1990-1991. She then went to work for the state of Oklahoma [NORSE] until 1994. On April 25, 1993, she changed her life totally. She attended the Cherokee Strip Crusade with John Wesley White, a Billy Graham associate evangelist. and gave her life to Christ. On May 10, 1994, Judy was baptized at Emmanuel Baptist Church. In 2002 she started her full time ministry with Hope Outreach, as a full time counselor and lay minister for “Spring of Living Water." In April 2005, Judy and Maggie Reiger started the “Maggie and Judy Show" on Pegasys. Judy was a wonderful sister and aunt. She has been blessed with so many friends and loved ones. She will be greatly missed by all. She was preceded in death by her parents, L.D. and Betty; nephew, Michael Shawn Spencer; grandparents, Roscoe and Lottie Bonnett and Roy and Minnie Buss. Judy is survived by her sisters and husbands, Frances and Allen Spencer, Vicki and Don Calsing all of Enid; her brother, Rick Bonnett of Hunter; three nephews, Reverend Scott Spencer, Dustin and Tyler Bonnett; five nieces, Tammy Lang and husband, Scott, Karissa Brown and husband, Kelly, Stephanie Spencer, Melissa Waltz and husband, Kevin, and Mindy Calsing; six great nephews, Caleb and Cameron Lang, Brinley and Bryson Brown, Chandler and Julian Calsing; two great nieces, Megan Waltz and Kindle Calsing; and many friends. Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Spring of Living Water. |

A private family burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery before the service under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory. Ricky was born July 20, 1953 in Enid, OK to Lenwood "LD" and Betty Buss Bonnett and passed away Saturday, February 22, 2025 in the Cross Timbers Senior Mental Health. In 1968, he had the Grand Champion Steer at Tulsa State Fair and was active in 4-H and FFA. He played basketball, and was on the 1971 Baseball State Runner Up Team. He was in the last graduating class of 1971 from Hunter High School. After High School he started his own Custom Cutting Crew and traveled from Texas to South Dakota cutting wheat and corn. He later started working for Johnston Enterprise as a truck driver retiring in 2007. Ricky loved hunting and fishing. He trained hunting dogs. He served on the Hunter Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Hunter Christian Church. He enjoyed watching OU sports, playing pitch, and enjoying holidays with his family. His favorite past time was going to the Casinos. He is survived by his two sisters, Frances Spencer and Vicki [Don] Calsing, nephew Scott Spencer, nieces, Tammy [Scott] Lang, Stephanie Spencer, Karissa [Kelly] Brown, two sons Dustin Len Bonnett and Tyler Davin Bonnett, and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Judy and nephew Michael Shawn and brother-in-law Allen Spencer. Memorials may be made to the Hunter Christian Church with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory serving as custodians of the funds.
