© Hennessey Clipper Hennessey, Oklahoma March 3, 1955 August 16, 1869 ~ February 26, 1955 Funeral services were held February 23 at 1:30 PM in the Darnall Chapel for James Martin Bond, 85, who died Saturday morning, February 16 at a local hospital after a lengthy illness. Rev Ralph Cooper, pastor of the Grand Avenue Methodist Church officiated. Burial was made in Memorial Park Cemetery. Born in Bates County Missouri, Mr bond was a veteran of three runs for land into Oklahoma. He was on hand when Old Oklahoma was opened in 1889; at the Cherokee Strip opening in 1893 and the opening of the Cheyenne - Arapaho country. His claim staked during the Cherokee Strip opening was 3.5 miles southeast of Bison. He moved to Enid in 1923 and had resided there since. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, Custer County and was a member of the Methodist Church. His first wife, Mrs Alma Ross, Hennessey, died in 1904. He remarried in 1906 to Edith Clingan, Cash, and she died in 1934. Survivors include five daughters, Mrs Hurley Beshears, Oklahoma City, Mrs Charles Henneke, Drummond, Mrs Harry Hall, Wichita, Mrs Bert Johnson, Mrs C. R. Turner, both of Enid; two sons, Floyd C. Bond, Enid, and Glenn Bond, Eagle Creek, Oregon; three sisters, Mrs Minnie Byrd, Oklahoma City, Mrs Oliver Harring, Ringwood, Mrs Walter Hamilton, Enid; one brother, Claude Bond, Enid; 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. |
© Hennessey Clipper Hennessey, Oklahoma March 19, 1953 September 27, 1892 ~ March 17, 1953 Mrs Jessie Cora Hill Bond, 61, a former Hennessey resident, died in an Enid hospital Tuesday afternoon, following an illness of several months. A native of McPherson, Kansas, she had lived in Oklahoma since she was eight years old. She had resided in Enid since moving there from Hennessey in 1922, except for a few years spent with her husband in Fort Scott, Kansas, during the war. She was a former member of the Hennessey chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her husband, of the home; two sons and four daughters, Clifford and Lowell E. Bond, of Enid; Mrs Willis Rawlins, Munich, Germany; Mrs Fred McCartney, of Carlsbad, California; Mrs Glenn Defoe, Austin, Texas, and Miss Donna Bond, University of Oklahoma School of Nursing in Oklahoma City. She is also survived by her mother, Mrs Ada Hill, Neoberg, Oregon; one brother, Harry Hill, Neoberg, and 10 grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are pending. |
© Enid Morning News Enid, Oklahoma April 1969 September 18, 1912 ~ April 11, 1969 Funeral services for Mrs Lowell E. [Cuma] Bond, 56, Canton, will be at 2 PM Tuesday in the Chapel of the Brown Funeral Home. Rev. Paul Tripp will officiate and burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Brown's. Mrs Bond, a native of Canton, died Friday in an Okeene hospital. She attended elementary school at Canton and Blackwell and graduated from Enid high school in 1931. She and Lowell E. bond were married March 10, 1933, in Medford and lived in Enid until 1961. Mrs Bond was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church, Enid; past member Singing Wives; past president of XYZ Club; past President of Sigma Nu Fraternity Mothers Club in Stillwater. She is survived by her husband Lowell Bond, Canton; two sons, Charles D. Bond, Ft. Worth, Texas, and Captain Gregg S. Bond, Ft. Wolters, Mineral Wells, Texas; her mother, Mrs C. Y. Hockaday, Canton; a sister, Mrs Carl Myers, Enid; a niece, Mrs Donald Krause, Okeene and four grandchildren. Her father and a sister preceded her in death. |
