Funeral services for Don W. Bloom, age 62, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Enid, will be at 10 AM Thursday at the Central Christian Church with Rev'ss Kevin Arensman and Lewis Corporon officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau – Evans Funeral Home.

Don was born in Alva, Oklahoma on July 26, 1934 to Clifford and Mary Alexander Bloom and died Sunday afternoon, July 6, 1997 at the Specialty Hospital of Houston, Texas.

He graduated from Enid High School in 1952 and went on to receive a Bachelors in Music Education from Phillips University in August 1956. During that time he was also a music teacher at Memorial High School in Enid, and a music therapist at the Enid State School. From 1956 to 1960 he went on to serve as an instructor at the U. S. Naval School of Music in Washington, D. C. Don returned to Oklahoma in 1960 to teach instrumental and vocal music for the Buffalo Public School District. During that time he also obtained his Masters of Education degree in Guidance Counseling and Public School Administration from NWOSU in Alva. From 1962 to 1966 Don held numerous positions within the Enid Public School District, including counselor at DeWitt Waller Junior High, counselor and psychology teacher at Enid High School and director of guidance and counseling programs for the Enid School District. From 1966 to 1976 he was Assistant to the Superintendent of Enid Public Schools while he completed additional post – graduate work at Oklahoma State University. From 1976 to 1981 he served as Superintendent of the Enid Public School. In 1981, Don and his wife, Pat opened Bloom's Photo and Audio Visual and operated it until 1987. From 1987 until his retirement in 1997, Don worked as a guidance counselor at Wheatly High School in Houston, Texas.

From 1968 to 1981, Don was a member of numerous professional and public organizations, including the Oklahoma State Department of Education and the Enid Chamber of Commerce. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Tri – State Music Festival and the Booker T. Washington Community Center. He was a longtime member of the Central Christian Church, and a member of the Bellaire Christian Church in Houston, Texas.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Pat Bloom, of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Julie and her husband, Jerry of Seattle, Washington; two sons: David and his wife, Kelly of Denver, Colorado, Steve and his wife, Lisa of Enid; three grandchildren: Kinsey, Tyler and Jared; one brother, Gary Bloom and his wife, Paula and their four children of Bethany, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford and mother, Mary Bloom.
