TULSA — James Russell Bishop passed from this life to his eternal home on November 24th, 2010, in Tulsa, OK.

Jim was born February 10, 1920, in Elizabethtown, PA, to Harry G. and Mary Rapp Bishop. After high school, Jim joined the Army Air Corps in 1941 and served two years in Enid at Enid Air Force Base and one year as Corporal and an Air Craft Armourer (ground crew) in Harlingen, TX.

While stationed in Enid he met his future wife, Frances Louise (Campbell) Bishop, and they were married in Elizabethtown, PA, on January 14, 1944, by Rev. Paul Fridinger in the United Brethren Church.

Jim served in the European theater in 1944 and was discharged in December 1945. He and Frances lived in Newkirk , OK, before moving to Enid in November 1946. Jim worked for George E. Failing Co., where he retired after 40 years as a clerk in the materials and control division.

He was passionate about his faith and family. He and Frances were very involved in their local church, First Evangelical United Brethren, which later became Willow View United Methodist Church in Enid. Here he served on the board in the earlier years and was an active choir participant until 10 years ago and also singing at many funerals over the years. Jim had a sincere love and appreciation for people and he never met a stranger, always giving a big smile, handshake or a good hug! He loved to tell stories of being from Pennsylvania, serving in the Army and how he met Frances. He stayed positive and joyful until the last days of his life.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Frances, who passed away January 24, 2010, after 66 years of marriage; his parents; and one brother, Warren Russell Bishop. He is survived by one daughter, Lana Bebee (Ron) from Tulsa; one son, Sam Bishop of Enid; grandchildren, Ryan Bebee (Susannah) of Oklahoma City, Ross Bebee (Elizabeth) of Frisco, TX, and Robin Blose (Jonathan) of Ardmore, OK; and great grandchildren, Shawn and Clara Bebee and Braxton Bebee. Sibling survivors include Betty Rodman of Milford, IN, Harry Bishop of Hemet, CA, Shirley Stotz of Las Cruces, N.M., Ed Bishop of Albuquerque, N.M. and David Bishop of Manheim, PA, and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home in Enid on Tuesday, November 30th at 1 p.m. with Pastor Bruce Ewing of Tulsa officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery . There will be a time of visitation with the family from 5-6:30 p.m. Monday at the Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jim's name to Grace Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 35894 Tulsa, OK, 74153. Condolences may be emailed to the family at ladusauevans@suddenlinkmail.com.
