A Graveside Service for Valerie "Sherrie" Bentz, age 79, of Enid, will be 10:00 am, Friday, July 2, 2021 in the Garden Chapel at Memorial Park Cemetery. Father Mark Mason will officiate. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Valerie (Sherrie) Bentz was born April 18, 1942 in Enid, Oklahoma, to Connie J. and Victoria (Stressler) Doerfler, and passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2021 with her family at her side.

Sherrie graduated from Garber High School in 1960. She was elected Carnival Queen and was Garber's representative as All Star Queen in Oklahoma City. She spent her summers at the Garber Swimming pool. In 1960, she married Gaylon W. Bentz at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Enid. She worked for Dr. Don L. Gooch as a Medical Assistant for thirty-five years. Because of her love for all animals, she took in and fed many strays.

Sherrie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gaylon Bentz; sister, Connie Donaldson; brother, LeRoy Doerfler; and granddaughter, Alicia. She is survived by her, daughter, Mindy and Son-in-law Brian Simunek; grandson, Austin and his wife Hannah Simunek; and sisters; Doris Chapman, Flora Kusch, Wanda Avery, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Her last wish was to feed the strays and support local animal shelters including the SPCA.

Memorial contributions in Sherrie's name may be made to the Enid SPCA with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
