© Enid Morning News Enid, Oklahoma March 27, 1943 June 17, 1857 ~ March 26, 1943 John Barnes, 85, 415 West Broadway, died Friday afternoon at 4:20 at an Enid hospital following an illness of about two weeks. Barnes, a retired real estate broker, came to Enid four years ago from Texahoma where he was engaged in the real estate business. He was also an ordained minister and was quite active in assisting in church revivals and meetings. He was a member of the First Baptist church in Enid and belonged to the Masonic lodge. Survivors are his wife, Maggie, of the home, one son, Fred J. Hoskins, Spearman, Texas, two daughters, Mrs. Dana McKinney, Artesia, Calif., Mrs Clara Jones of Terre Haute, Ind., two brothers, Fred Barnes and Dale Barnes of Anderson, Indiana and eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the First Baptist church with Rev B. M. Jackson in charge. Burial place will be announced after. The Fossett-Schaeffer funeral home is caring for the body. |
© Enid Morning News Enid, Oklahoma July 2, 1954 June 22, 1868 ~ July 1, 1954 Mrs Maggie Barnes, former Enid resident, died Thursday at the home of a son, Fred J. Hoskins, Spearman, Texas. She was 86. Graveside committal will be held at 5 p.m. today at Memorial Park Cemetery with the Fossett Funeral home in charge of local arrangements. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Spearman. Mrs Barnes was a pioneer resident of Enid where she lived until 1943 when her husband, John Barnes, real estate operator, died. After his death she moved to Spearman to live with her son. Mrs Barnes was a member of the Baptist church. She had been in ill health for several months. |

Barnes, 57 years old, will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday in the Central Christian Church, Rev J. N. Mrs Barnes was born September 3, 1886, in Rush County Kansas. She lived south of Perry until 1961 when she moved to Coalgate at the death of her husband to live with a daughter, Mrs James Sallee. Survivors include three sons, James Walton Barnes and Lawrence Barnes, both of Enid, and Lee Edwin Barnes, Argonia Kan.; five daughters, Mrs Wanda Garfield, Owing Mill, Md., Mrs Arvesta Berry, Calremore, Miss Faye Barnes, Tulsa, Mrs Naomi Beaman, San Antonio, Texas, and Mrs Nadine Sallee of Coalgate; 22 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Other survivors include two brothers, S.S. Hicks, Joshua Tree, Calif., and Leon Hicks, Cleveland, Okla., and one sister, Mrs Ada Wiehe, Perry. |

She was born May 29, 1895, at Sterling, Ksansas to Ora Cornelius and Minnie Esther [VanBibber] Andre. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Midwest City. She is survived by a daughter, Marguerite Kintzinger and a granddaughter, Andrea Kintzinger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Damon Barnes in 1967. Barnes was born May 23, 1904, at Columbus, Kansas, and had been a resident of Enid since 1921. He and Effie Graves were married in 1937 at Cherokee. He was employed at Rainey-Davis Wholesale Grocery as a stock clerk for 30 years prior to his retirement. Survivors include his wife, Effie; two brothers, H. B. She was born November 7, 1911 in Roy, New Mexico to J. B. And Mary King. She was employed as a records librarian for 23 years at St. Mary's Hospital and for Dr A. W. Janzen for 17 years in Enid. She is survived by daughters Ellen and son-in-law Quintin Murer of Rancho Cordova, California and Mary Lee and son-in-law Harold McCune of Boise City, Oklahoma; son Edward LeRoy Barnes of San Antonio, Texas; seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Her husband Edward Lee Barnes, whom she married on December 23, 1930, preceded her in death. The couple had lived in Enid since 1938. Funeral services will be held today at 3 PM in the Henninger-Allen Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. T. A. Chick Officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family wishes to extend their appreciation and love to Dotty France of San Antonio, Texas for her unending love, devotion, and dedication to Hattie. Enid, Oklahoma February 2004 December 19, 1922 ~ February 8, 2004 Ada Faye Barnes was born December 19, 1922, to Lee and Dora Barnes on a farm south of Perry, the sixth of 10 children. Her parents preceded her in death as well as four brothers and three sisters. She attended several schools in Noble CO and graduated from Perry High School in 1940. She then attended Beauty College in Enid and became a beautician, at the head of her class. She wiorked in Enid, Perry and Stillwater until World War II came around. She joined the United States Coast Guard as a SPAR nd served her country as a radio operator. After the war she went back to school using the GI Bill and became a lab technician. She traveled to nearly every country, some more than once. She was a member of the Harvard Avenue Christian Church. Though she never married nor had children of her own, her 22 nieces and nephews considered her a very vital part of their lives. The family asks that instead of floral remembrances, donations be made to the Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences attention Renee Motte. Mwemorial services wil be held at the Harvard Avenue Christian Church at 2 pm Friday, February 13. |

Lucille was born November 24, 1923 in Goodson, Missouri, to P.H. and Laura [Bryant] Pitts, and she passed away Saturday, May 12, 2018 in Oklahoma City, at the age 94. Lucille, as she was known to friends and family, grew up in Billings, Oklahoma. She graduated from Billings High School with the Class of 1941. On July 7, 1943 Lucille and Charles Homer Barnes were married in Enid, Oklahoma. They were married 52 years before Homer passed away in September of 1995. After a career with Schlumberger Oilfield Services and Central National Bank, Lucille retired to enjoy a multitude of hobbies. An excellent seamstress, she made quilts, restored antique trunks and furniture, painted china and made dozens of porcelain dolls. Lucille was an avid attendee of estate sales and auctions where she enjoyed adding to her many and varied collections. She was also well known for her cookie baking. Lucille is survived by her daughter, Connie Barnes Weber and her son-in-law Terry Weber of Oklahoma City. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Barney was born April 3, 1929, in Enid, OK, to Jack and Catherine [Hart] Hays and passed away peacefully at home on February 14, 2021, surrounded by her family. Eunice was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Harold Hays and her loving husband Buster Dean Barnes [1925-1991] whom she married on April 3, 1946, son-in-law, Harry J. Congdon. Barney, as she was known by many, was the consummate Enid booster and lived here her entire life; 70 of those years in the house she and Buster bought to raise their three daughters. Known for her independent and sparkling personality, Barney spent many years as a successful salesperson for J. C. Penney, Coldiron's and C.R. Anthony. After retiring, she utilized her experience and upbeat, positive personality volunteering for more than 20 years at St Mary's Hospital and then at Loaves & Fishes. Barney was also a proud member of Delta Theta Chi Sorority, Oklahoma Delta Chapter for over 50 years. © Enid Morning News Enid, Oklahoma June 14, 2010 March 20, 1930 ~ June 11, 2010 Robert "Bob" Lee Barnes was born March 30, 1930, in Enid to W. J. Barnes Sr and Anna Lave Furhmaster Barnes. He departed this life Friday, June 11, 2010, after a 14-year battle with cancer. In 1947, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Mary Louise Poteet, in Perry, Okla. They were partners and best friends for 62 precious years. Bob worked for Champlin Oil CO for 21 years and in 1970 he began his lifelong adventure as a Sonic Industries investor. He was successful fry cook [burger flipper] and passed that skill on to his children and his grandchildren. One of Bob's favorite pastimes was playing golf with his buddies. He didn't care where he was playing as long as he got to keep score. He also loved to go boating and fishing with Mary and the grandkids. Bob was a member of the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge and Knights of Columbus. He was a member of Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church, Enid, where he was a eucharistic minister and an usher. Bob loved to help others and often volunteered for Our Daily Bread ministries and helped Saint Gregory's Catholic Church with its grocery mission. Bob never met a stranger. He was an awesome husband, dad, grandpa "Papa", son, uncle, cousin, brother and friend and will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his baby daughter, Judy Kay; his parents; and his brother, W. J. Barnes Jr. He is survived by his wife, Mary, of the Enid home; son, Robert "Bobby" C. Enid, Oklahoma December 2022 August 31, 1933 ~ December 10, 2022 Margaret Sally Wilene [Hardwick] Barnes, but don't call her Margaret, 89 of Enid, OK was born in Calvin, OK on August 31, 1933 and passed away at her home in Enid on December 10, 2022. She was the youngest daughter of Frank L & Arlie [Cox] Hardwick. She had a brother Frank L. "Sonny" Hardwick and a sister Katherine [Hardwick] Wardlow Morris. She graduated from Calvin High School in 1952. She moved to Enid to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone company as an operator. It was in Enid that she met Gene Root. They were married in 1955 and had a son, Eddy Dale Root. Her career took her to Altus where she met another SWB employee Johnnie Salmon and they became lifelong friends. She moved to Lawton and then to Bethany where she retired after 32 years of service. Along the way she met and married Don Barnes. They raised horses and had a very large garden every year until he passed away in 1993. She moved to Enid in 1995 to be closer to her grandchildren. Over the next several years she went from being grandma to 5 to being GG to 10 great grandchildren. She spent her early retirement years bowling, attending grandchildren's events, being a chauffeur for them and picking peas and green beans out of Bryan's sirloin burger soup. She also loved to travel and made it to all 50 states and Canada. In later years she enjoyed playing any and all possible card and domino games with her many friends. She never failed to make sure we always had plenty of desserts at all the family gatherings. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and both husbands. She will be greatly missed by her son, Eddy Dale and wife Susan, Angi [LaRue] Root, grandchildren: Brandi and husband Tim Price, Jessica and husband Josh Pitts, Bryan and wife Caitlyn Root, Megan and husband Jeff Pickens, Greg and wife Jenni Pekrul, great grandchildren Abbigayle, Jeremiah and Noah Price, Jadyn, Emma, Adyson and Ethan Pitts, Danny Pembrook and Carter Root and Rylynn Pekrul. |

Clara was born December 14, 1938, in Fairview, Oklahoma to Leo and Goldie Bowers and passed away unexpectedly at her home on January 2, 2021. Clara grew up in the farming community of Fairview, Oklahoma. She graduated high school at Longdale, Oklahoma, and married Harvey Barnes on January 20, 1956. She became a homemaker and moved to the different Air Force bases Harvey was stationed at until 1964. After Harvey's service in the Air Force they moved to Enid, Oklahoma, then to Jet, Oklahoma, then eventually back to Enid. Clara made sure her children were raised with Christian values through the Nazarene Church. She valued education and assisted her daughters to achieve higher education. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Harvey Barnes, her oldest daughter, Queta Henderson and her middle daughter, Tana Germundson. She leaves two grandchildren, Kyle Henderson and Kelli Henderson and four great-grandchildren. Clara was preceded in death by her parents, her youngest daughter, Lonna, three brothers and two sisters.
