Viola Mae "Vi" [Hergert] Baltzer
August 27, 1911 ~ October 4, 2007

Funeral services for Viola Mae Hergert Baltzer will be 2 p.m. Saturday, October 6, 2007 at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. Rev Garvie Schmidt will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Viola was born August 27, 1911, to William and Katherine [Harder] Hergert in Fairview, Oklahoma, and passed away Thursday, October 4, 2007, at St Mary's Regional Medical Center in Enid at age 96.

She and her family lived in Indiahoma, Oklahoma, for a short time and later moved to Enid, Oklahoma, where she attended school.

Viola accepted the Lord on May 26, 1933, at age 22. Her Bible verse claim to salvation was Luke 7:48, "And He said unto her, thy sins are forgiven."

She married Loyal R. Baltzer in the Enid Mennonite Brethren Church on June 23, 1934, officiated by the Rev P.C. Grunau. They then moved to Hillsboro, Kansas, where she was baptized and became a member of the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church.

In the early 1940s, they moved to Arkansas City, Kansas, where they lived a few years before moving to Wichita, Kansas. Around 1944, they moved to Enid, Oklahoma, where she remained until the time of her death.

Viola had a tender heart especially towards children. She was ready to fix meals for neighbors when in need and was a ready volunteer to babysit their only grandson, Mark, when he was young.

She and Loyal were faithful members of the Enid church.

Vi had a special talent for decorating, which she enjoyed in making clothes and decorating their home. She was a wonderful homemaker and a fabulous cook. Her specialty was fried chicken.

Viola was preceded in death by her loving and faithful husband, Loyal, on May 26, 2004. She also was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Mrs. Jake [Sylvia] Schale

Survivors include her daughter, Gloria and husband, Dwayne Janzen; one grandson, Mark Janzen; one great grandson, Tristen Janzen; and one great granddaughter, Marie "Mimi" Neddermeyer, all of Enid. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Forrest (Jean) Prickett of Round Rock, Texas, and Mrs Lawrence [Frances] Patzkowsky of Enid.

Memorials may be made to the Enid Mennonite Brethren Church or the Methodist Home with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home acting as custodian of the funds.

Condolences may be e-mailed to the family at ladusauevans@suddenlinkmail.com
