Margaret Sally Wilene (Hardwick) Barnes, but don't call her Margaret, 89. of Enid, OK. was born in Calvin, OK. on August 31, 1933. and passed away at her home in Enid on December 10, 2022.

She was the youngest daughter of Frank L and Arlie (Cox) Hardwick. She had a brother, Frank L. (Sonny) Hardwick, and a sister, Katherine (Hardwick) Wardlow Morris. She graduated from Calvin High School in 1952. She moved to Enid to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as an operator. It was in Enid that she met Gene Root. They were married in 1955 and had a son, Eddy Dale Root. Her career took her to Altus where she met another SWB employee Johnnie Salmon, and they became lifelong friends. She moved to Lawton and then to Bethany, where she retired after 32 years of service.

Along the way she met and married Don Barnes. They raised horses and had a very large garden every year until he passed away in 1993. She moved to Enid in 1995 to be closer to her grandchildren. Over the next several years she went from being grandma to 5 to being GG to 10 great-grandchildren. She spent her early retirement years bowling, attending grandchildren's events, being a chauffeur for them and picking peas and green beans out of Bryan's sirloin burger soup. She also loved to travel and made it to all 50 states and Canada. In later years she enjoyed playing any and all possible card and domino games with her many friends. She never failed to make sure we always had plenty of desserts at all the family gatherings.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and both husbands. She will be greatly missed by her son, Eddy Dale and wife Susan, Angi (LaRue) Root, grandchildren: Brandi and husband Tim Price, Jessica and husband Josh Pitts, Bryan and wife Caitlyn Root, Megan and husband Jeff Pickens, Greg and wife Jenni Pekrul, great-grandchildren Abbigayle, Jeremiah and Noah Price, Jadyn, Emma, Adyson and Ethan Pitts, Danny Pembrook and Carter Root and Rylynn Pekrul.

The family requests memorials be made to the Enid SPCA, with Ladusau-Evans as the custodian of the funds. Online condolences can be made at www.ladusauevans.com.
