The memorial service for James “Jim” Atkinson, 79-year-old Enid resident, will be 4 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 2009, at Phillips-Northern Hills Golf Course, by the lake. The Rev. Jack Atkinson will officiate. Burial of cremains will be in Kremlin Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.

Jim was born March 6, 1930, in Enid to Ralph and Harriett (Duggan) Atkinson and died Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

He attended local schools and graduated from Enid High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. After the service he married Rosellyn Brown in 1952, in Alva, Okla. The couple made their home in Enid, where Jim worked at Davis T.V., Keeling Appliance and later Emerick’s T.V. Since 1979, he operated the Phillips-Northern Hills Golf Course, which was his passion. He also enjoyed square dancing.

He is survived by his granddaughter, Stacy Carter, of Enid; his two brothers, Jack Atkinson of Elk City and Richard “Tink” Atkinson of Enid; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rosellyn; two sons, Kent and Kevin; one daughter, Dianne Carter; and five brothers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made through the funeral home to Muscular Dystrophy Association.
