Ex-Orlando area pastor dies in Enid hospital

Funeral services were at 2 PM Tuesday in the Trinity Methodist Church, Enid, for George Vogel, 82, Enid resident and a former Orlando area minister. Vogel died Saturday in and Enid hospital following an illness of several weeks. Burial was in the North I00F Cemetery at Marshall.

A native of Germany, he came to the U.S. In 1908 and settled on a farm near Marshall. He was an ordained minister and had preached several years in the German Methodist Church at Orlando. He moved to Enid in 1945 after retiring from the farm near Marshall. Survivors include his wife, Marie, of the home in Enid; two daughters, Mrs. Ellsworth Hay, Red Rock, and Mrs. Benton Green, Bend, Oregon; two sons, Adolph and Sam Vogel, both of Marshall; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren

George Vogel, son of John and Kunigunde Vogel, was born April 6, 1881 near Erlangen, Germany and passed away September 21, 1963 at the age of 82 years, five months and 15 days. At the age of 13 he accepted Christ as his Savior, and became a member of the Methodist Church.

In 1908 Mr. Vogel came to the United States; and on May 22 of that year he married Marie Koerner. Shortly after their marriage they moved to their farm east of Marshall, living there until 1946. During his active years, Mr. Vogel also served as minister of the German Methodist Church, near Orlando for a number of years. He was a skilled blacksmith and carried out this trade in his home country, and for a short time after coming to the United States.

Upon retirement Mr. and Mrs. Vogel moved to Enid and resided there until his passing. During his life in Enid he was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Marie of the home; two daughters, Mrs. E. H. (Lydia) Hay of Red Rock; Mrs. V. L. (Maria) Green of Bend, Oregon; two sons Adolph and Samuel of Marshall. Also six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a nephew Fred Keneman of Waukomis. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him. He was a dedicated person; devoted husband and father; and lived by his faith until his death.
