December 14, 1921 - November 1, 2019

The funeral for Elreta Loraine Smith, 97-year-old former Covington resident, will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 6, 2019, in the Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Tommy Donaldson officiating. Burial will follow in North Lions IOOF Cemetery near Marshall, OK. Services are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.

Elreta was born December 14, 1921, on the farm near Marshall, OK, to John Riley and Olive May (Miller) Cline and died Friday, November 1, 2019, at Brookdale Senior Living Center, Enid, OK.

Elreta and Kenneth Smith were united in marriage on October 13, 1945. They had two sons, Jerry and Duane. She was a graduate of Phillips University and taught elementary education for thirty-five years, retiring from Covington-Douglas school in 1980.

Upon retirement, Elreta and Kenneth loved to travel, spending summer months in Minnesota, fishing and collecting antiques. When at home, she found joy in gardening and cooking for family, friends and neighbors. She loved to eat fried okra and shrimp cocktail.

Elreta had a true pioneer woman spirit, being hard-working and never backing down from a challenge. She will forever be missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; parents; two brothers; and three sisters.

Elreta is survived by her sons, Jerry Smith and wife Carolyn of Enid, Duane Smith and wife Melody of Lucien; four grandchildren, Deidra Gerdes and husband Greg of Enid, Troy Smith and wife Ashley of Edmond, Dustin Smith and wife Carri of Lucien, Brian Smith and wife Tiffany of Covington; as well as ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made through the funeral home to Covington-Douglas Athletic Department.
