Velma Mae (LeForce) Congdon, 101, of McKinney, Texas, formerly of Garber, Okla., was the daughter of Milbern and Annie (Fortney) LeForce. She was born Nov. 23, 1907, in Beaver County, Okla., and left this earth to join her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, at McKinney Health Care Center, McKinney, Texas.

On July 4, 1931, Velma married Roy A. Congdon in Covington, Okla. He preceded her in death on July 8, 1995. They were married 64 years and lived on a farm in the Hunter, Okla., area until they retired and moved to Garber, Okla. Velma and Roy were contributors to the building of the new Baptist Church near the Garber schools and were highly respected members of the church. Velma remained a devout Christian throughout her life.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, at First Baptist Church, Garber. Pastor Tom LeGrand will officiate. Interment will be in Covington Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Dugger Funeral Home of Garber, Okla. Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church, Garber, in Velma's memory in care of Dugger Funeral Home, P.O. Box 66, Garber, OK 73738.

Velma is survived by her dear son, Cyril K. Congdon and his wife Bermah of Allen, Texas; six grandchildren, Terry Congdon and his wife Debbie of Wylie, Texas, Sue Jordan and her husband Jay of Parker, Texas, Vicki Heermans and her husband Mike of Nevada, Texas, Mike Grimes and his wife Irene of Grand Prairie, Texas, Charles Grimes and his wife Donna of Independence, Miss., and Randall Congdon and his wife Donna of Lancaster, Texas; 14 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Jack LeForce and his wife Janice of Edmond, Okla.; two sisters-in-law, Maidee LeForce of Covington, Okla., and Nadine LeForce of Enid, Okla.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy A. Congdon; parents, Milbern and Annie LeForce; two sisters, Alta Hopson and Beulah Hall; and four brothers, Clyde LeForce, Lee Roy LeForce, Lawrence LeForce and Lloyd LeForce.
