Mass of Christian burial for John C. Wagner, 93, of Enid, Okla., will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, with the Rev. Carson Krittenbrink officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

John was born Sept. 3, 1921, in Lasalle, Ill., to John S. and Hazel Stout Wagner and passed away Friday, Dec. 26, 2014, at Greenbrier Nursing Home.

John grew up in Rockford and Peoria, Ill. He attended school in Illinois.

He was recruited by the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs to play baseball, but decided to serve his country and joined the Army Air Corp. He was stationed at Vance Air Base, where he met Eileen Goll at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, and was married on Feb. 11, 1944. She passed away Aug. 18, 1987.

After serving his country, he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier, retiring after 36 years.

John was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, American Legion and VFW. He was an avid music lover and played his saxophone for several area bands and celebrities. He loved to be outdoors, so he could fish and go hunting.

He enjoyed boating and teaching people how to water ski. John enjoyed his relationship with Pat Whitt after his wife passed away. His great sense of humor and smile will be missed by many.

He is survived by his two knucklehead sons, Jack and wife Ginny Wagner of Enid and Bill Wagner of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Laurie Wagner, Shane and wife Heather Wagner, and Scott Wagner, all of Oklahoma City; great-grandchildren, Blaken, Shelby and Lexis; and numerous nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents and his companion, Pat Whitt.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.

Condolences may be made and the service viewed at www.ladusauevans.com.
