The Mass of Christian Burial for Ellen Ruth (Shire) Thomson, 77 year-old former Enid resident is 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2017, in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. The Rev. Philip Louis will officiate. Burial follows in Calvary Cemetery, under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary is 6:00 p.m. Tuesday evening in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Deacon Tony Crispo presiding.

Ellen was born September 19, 1940, at the Hodgden Farm House, west of Imo, Ok. She was the third of seven children born to Walter and Norma Feland Hodgden. She was a country girl who attended school at the Turkey Creek Schoolhouse, before attending St. Joseph's. She worked diligently on the family farm alongside her brothers and sisters. These adventures would lead to many wonderful memories that she loved to share with those blessed to know her. She grew up and attended Oklahoma State University, where she met and married Marvin Shire. They would be blessed with three children Joseph, Susan, and Michael. She got her degree in education and began a lifelong love of sharing her knowledge and pushing her students to reach the fullest of their potential. She retired and married Robert Thomson and moved to northwest Oklahoma City for the remainder of her life. She enjoyed traveling, cheering on the OSU Cowboys and OKC Thunder, and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Ellen is survived by her husband, Robert Thomson; children, Mike Shire, Susan Craig, Joseph Shire, Chris Thomson, and Bobby and Lisa Thomson. Grandchildren, Russ and Marissa Choate, Ryan Choate, Rhiannon Shire, Brandy Valentine, Lindsay and Adam Prichard, Megan Gough, Glen Snorf, Kayla and Nicholas Burkett. Great-grandchildren, Rayne, Rogan, Bruce, Michael, Parker, Peyton, Carson, Piper, and Winnie. Two sisters, Lois (Gary) Smith, of Richland, WA; and Anita(Tom) Watson of Saskatchewan, Canada. One brother, Bryce Hodgden (Elaine) of Woodward, OK; and two sisters-in-law, Lollie Hodgden and Millie Hodgden.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bruce and Bob Hodgden.

Memorials may be made through Henninger-Hinson to Our Daily Bread; Forgotten Ministries; or to the charity of the donor's choosing.
