Helen Lorraine (Sorensen) Stella died suddenly Sunday, May 15, 2016, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence, Kan. Services will be 2:30pm Saturday, May 21, 2016 in the Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Aaron Foshee officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will precede the service beginning at 12:30pm. Services are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. Helen was born June 3, 1930, in Custer Park, Ill., to Charles and Minnie (Weiske) Sorensen. On Feb. 26, 1949, she married Fred D. Stella. He preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 1996.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed traveling with her husband, especially as part of his employment with Great Lakes Carbon Corp., and after his retirement in 1984.

Helen is survived by her daughter, LaDonna L. Atchinson, Lawrence, Kan.; six grandchildren, Kimberly C. Atchinson and Elizabeth Bennett, both of Lawrence, Kan., Justin Houghtaling, Cassandra Weidner, Robert Houghtaling, and Angela Houghtaling, all of Enid; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marcella Staffan, Pampa, Tex., and Rita Anderson, Bothell, Wash.

Besides her husband, parents, brother, Wayne Sorensen, and sister Mabel Cramer, she was preceded in death by daughters, Janice Stella and Patricia Houghtaling.

Memorial donations may be given through Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or Hospice Circle of Love.
