Submitted by: Jo Aguirre

Leo McGuar, 85, died early Tuesday in a local hospital.

McGuar was born in Tower Hill, Illinois, May 14, 1895, and moved with his family to Oklahoma at an early age, settling first in Carmen and later moving to a farm west of Enid.

He was a veteran of World War I, having served 17 months overseas in France. McGuar farmed before entering, and after leaving, military service.

He and Donnabelle Rendel were married in 1938 in Enid. After his marriage, he farmed near Hennessy and Orlando until ill health forced him to retire in 1945, after which he moved to Enid.

McGuar was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. In his memory, contributions may be made to either the church or the Heart Fund, with Fossett Funeral Home serving as custodian of the fund.

In addition to Mrs. McGuar of the home, he is survived by three brothers, Jake and Arthur McGuar of Enid, Ray McGuar, Orlando; three sisters, Mildred (Mrs. Melvin) Martin, Nellie (Mrs. Irvin) Driskell and Elizabeth (Mrs. W. P.) Jones, all of Enid. Two sisters and a brother preceded him in death.

Last rites for McGuar will be at 10 AM Thursday in the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with the Rev. Gary Kyler officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, under the direction of Fossett's.
