Dr. Joan McCreedy, 48, a member of a pioneer Enid family, died Friday morning in a San Antonio, Texas, hospital after a short illness.

She was born July 3, 1924, in Enid, graduated from St. Joseph's School in 1942 and from Our Lady of the Lake College in San Antonio in 1946 with a degree in library science. She taught at Our lady of the Lake before going to Columbia University where she earned her master's degree and doctorate in library science.

Returning to Our lady of the Lake College, she served as director of the Library Science School and on the Board of Directors for Compton Encyclopedia.

She was a member of the Catholic Church and was preceded in death by her father, T. J. McCreedy in 1963 and by her brother, T. J. Junior, in 1964.

Her mother, Mrs. T. J. McCreedy, 801 W. Oklahoma, survives as does a sister, Mrs. Hugh R. ( Mary Ellen) O'Conner, Grissom AFB, Indiana, three nieces and two nephews.

Recitation of the Rosary will be at 7 PM Monday in the Henninger – Allen Funeral Home Chapel and Funeral Mass will be at 10 AM Tuesday in St. Francis Xavier Church. The Rev. Donald Moore will be celebrant and burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.

Contributions in Dr. McCreedy's memory may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation cancer division, with the Henninger – Allen Funeral Home as custodian of the fund.
