Recitation of the Rosary for Alice Louise (Waken) Marek, 82 of Enid, will be Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. in the Anderson-Burris Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon on Wednesday, July 20, 2005 in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Rev. Kevin Ratterman and Rev. Ernest Flusche concelebrating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home, Enid.

Alice was born on July 25, 1922 in Enid, Oklahoma to John and Fadwa (Nicholas) Waken and died on July 16, 2005 in St. Mary's Regional Medical Center, Enid. She grew up in Enid and attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and graduated from Enid High School in 1940. On February 24, 1946, Alice married Edmund Marek in St. Francis and they made their home in New Jersey and later Enid. She was a longtime member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. After her husband's death in August 1964, Alice returned to Enid with her children. She worked at the City of Enid as a clerk in the water department, retiring in 1984.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Ed, on Aug. 17, 1964; a daughter, Sharon Story on Aug. 12, 1997; her parents; one sister ? Helen Haddad; and a son-in-law ? Cliff Story.

She is survived by her loving children and their spouses ??Dr. Ed and Letitia Marek of Norman, OK, Dr. Ron and Judy Marek of Wichita, KS; and Valerie and John Rogers of Mandeville, LA; one brother, John Waken of Arcadia, CA; four sisters, Blanche Richards of Tulsa, OK, Jeanette Chaplan of Pasadena, CA; Juliette "Julie" Thedford of Beumont, TX; and Mary Rose Boulder of La Gunda Hills, CA; twelve grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to St. Joseph's Catholic School.
