Mass of Christian Celebration for Jack Hodgden, age 75 of Enid, will be today at 11 AM in St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church with Father Larry Kowalski officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Brown Funeral Home. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Local #2270.

Jack was born in Enid on October 31, 1923 and died Monday, June 7, 1999 at St. Mary's Mercy Hospital. He attended Enid schools and spent four years at Oklahoma Military Academy, graduating in May of 1943. He went immediately into the Army where he was a lieutenant commanding five tanks and landed in France on D-Day with the first Army and later was transferred to General Patton's Third Army on August 1 and was wounded at St. Milo, France. He was decorated with the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and other medals, all of which are on display at OEM museum at Claremore, Oklahoma.

He went in the oil and gas business in 1953 as an independent. He was owner and operator of Hodgden energy. He also owned and operated a ranch in Cleo Springs.

He married Caroline Myers, September 1, 1945 in Denver, Colorado. He was a member of St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church, a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled Americans, a charter member of the Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association where he served two years as director. He was a member and served four years as a director representing western Oklahoma on the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, a member of the Enid Chamber of Commerce, and a charter member of Oakwood Country Club.

Hodgden is survived by his wife Caroline and two sons of Enid, and daughter Vivi Hodgden of Enid; children Paul Hodgden, David Hodgden, John Hodgden, Jeff and wife Ruhe Hodgden, Jack and wife Krystel Hodgden, Wiley Hodgden, Heather Hodgden and three great – grandchildren, Christian, Peter, and Mollie.

Memorials may be made in Mr. Hodgden's memory to the Holy Family Samaritan Fund for assistance to the needy with Brown Funeral Home serving as custodian of the fund.
