Herb Gabelsberg
The funeral for Herbert Gabelsberg, 80 will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.
Arrangments are by Ladusau-Evans. Visitations at the funeral home will be Wed. 15, 2000.
Herb was born Dec. 7, 1919 in Miami, MO and died Monday, March 13, 2000 . He lived on the family farm until he joined the Army Air Corp in Jan. 1942. He recieved his pilot's wings in 1943 and served in the South Pacific through 1945.
Herb was married to Dorothy Ann Wayne from Aug. 1943 until her death in 1949. He was married to Rachel Mae Lindley from Aug. 1950 until her death in Oct. 1978. He married Bessie Loraine Fleer in April 1979. He raised two sons, Jim and Steve.
Surviving is his wife and two sons.

ENID - The mass for Herbert Gabelsberg, 80, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements by Ladusau-Evans. Visitation at the funeral home will be Wednesday, March 15.(1999)

Herb was born on December 7, 1919 in Miami, MO and died Monday, March 13 at St. Mary's Hospital. He lived on the family farm until joining the Army Air Corps in January 1942, received his pilot's wings in 1943 and served in the South Pacific through 1945. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with clusters. He was recalled to the Air Force in 1951 and served as the Finance Officer for Vance AFB and Seoul, South Korea for the SW Pacific Area. He transferred to the reserves with the rank of Major in 1954. He then went to work for Champlin Petroleum Co., in the accounting department, becoming manager of the credit card department, and finally manager of all office services and supply until his retirement in 1982.

Herb was married to Dorothy Ann Wayne from August 1943 until her death in August 1949. He was married to Rachel Mae Lindley from August 1950 until her death in October 1978. He married Bessie Loraine Fleer in April 1979. He raised two sons, Jim and Steve.

Herb was a good husband and father who gave time to a wide variety of causes. He coached little league baseball, was a cub-scout master, was president of the kennel club, taught dog obedience schools, and organized the annual Enid AKC dog show. For many years he and Rae owned a boarding kennel on Oakwood Road and raised show dogs.

Herb joined the Loyal Order of Moose in June 1979. He held various positions in the Enid lodge including prelate and treasurer. He was elevated to the Legionnaire Degree, the Degree of Service in 1980, was honored as Moose of the Year in 1991, and received the Fellowship Degree of Honor in 1993. Herb very much enjoyed being of service to others. He organized the adopt-a-highway program, coordinated the Easter egg roll and children's Christmas basket program for several years for the Lodge. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW. He and Loraine delivered Meals-on-Wheels.

Surviving are his wife Bessie Loraine; sons Jim Gabelsberg, Tustin, CA; Steve Gabelsberg, Islamorada, FL; Danny Fleer, Drummond; sister Opal Rathbone, Lee's Summit, MO; eight grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brother Al Gabelsberg and son Buddy Fleer.

Memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the Moose Scholarship Fund or the charity of your choice.
