Maurice COLBERT

Calvary Catholic Cemetery

1859 - July 22, 1942

Funeral mass was said in the St. Francis Xavier Church July 24 for Maurice Colbert, 83 years old, a pioneer resident. Dean H. Schaubroeck officiated and burial was in Calvary Cemetery with the Fossett – Schaeffer Funeral Home in charge.

Colbert died July 22 shortly after collapsing on the courthouse lawn. Death was attributed to a heart attack.

Coming to Oklahoma from Fort Worth, Texas, Colbert settled on a farm west of Enid soon after the opening of the Cherokee Strip. He also owned another farm near Kremlin.

He retired seven years ago, moving to Tulsa where he lived with a son, Jack Colbert. Each year he returned to Enid to watch the wheat harvest.

Survivors are two sons, Jack Colbert of Tulsa and Bert Colbert of El Dorado, Kansas; two daughters, Mrs. Pot O'Connor, Tulsa, and Mrs. Clifford Webb of Wichita Falls, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. T. D. Brady, Enid, and Miss Julia Wilson, Danbury, Iowa; and one nephew, Richard Colbert, also of Danbury.
