Calvary Catholic Cemetery



The funeral for Jeanne Apel, 69, will be at 10 AM Friday in the Ladusau-Evans Chapel with the Rev. Thomas Dowdell officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery under the direction of the Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

She was born on August 17, 1927, in Enid, to Jefferson and Susie Schroeder Courtney and died Monday, September 23, 1996, at St. Mary's Mercy Hospital.

She attended Enid schools and graduated in 1945. On November 29, 1948, she married John A. Apel. She was active in the Democratic Party, serving as precinct chairman, and was on the election board. She belonged to the Garfield County Democratic Women's Club, St. Gregory's Altar Society and the American Business Women's Association. She was a charter member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church and served in many capacities there. She worked at Vance Air Force Base as a communications operator for four years, then worked at Groendyke Transport in the IBM department. Later, she operated a travel agency.

She is survived by her husband, John, of the home; two sons, Mike Apel and Steve Apel; two daughters, Robin Apel and Mrs. Bruce (Linda) Swart of Ames; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Forney (Loretta) Bailey; 11 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and three great-step grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, one grandchild, three brothers and one sister.
