Mass of Christian burial for Frank L. Adelman M.D. was held at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 25, 2002 at St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church in Enid, Oklahoma with the Rev. Larry Kowalski officiating. The Rosary was held at 7:00 PM Wednesday July 24, 2002 in the Henninger-Allen Chapel. Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery, in Enid, Oklahoma under the direction of Henninger-Allen Funeral Home.

Frank L. Adelman, M. D. passed away Sunday July 21, 2002 at the Springs at the Canterbury in Oklahoma City. Dr. Adelman was born in Bloomington, Illinois on November 19, 1917. Later, as a child, he moved with his parents Frank and Alice Adelman to Haskell, Oklahoma where he grew up. He received his pre-medical education from the University of Oklahoma and his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma Medical School in 1942. Dr. Adelman did his internship at Detroit Receiving Hospital in 1943.

During World War II he served as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division in the South Pacific; he participated in the battle of Leyte in the Phillipines. He later served in the Army of Occupation of Japan, completing his military service as a major in the Army Medical Corps. After leaving the military, he completed his psychiatric residency at the Menninger Foundation in Topeka, Kansas in 1950. Frank Adelman and Joan Harris were married in 1947 in Topeka. They then moved to Oklahoma City where he was in private practice until 1951, when Dr. Adelman became Medical Director at Eastern State Hospital in Vinita, Oklahoma. Dr. Adelman became Superintendent of Western State Hospital at Fort Supply, Oklahoma in 1952. In 1956, he and his family moved to Enid, Oklahoma where he was in private psychiatric practice until retiring from private and hospital practice in 1989. He then served as a consultant for Wheatland Mental Health Clinic and Pastoral Care. In 2000, Dr. and Mrs. Adelman moved to the Fountains at Canterbury Retirement Center in Oklahoma City. Dr. Adelman was a member of the American Medical Association, the Oklahoma State Medical Society, the Garfield County Medical Society. He served on the State Board of Medical Examiners for 14 years, including two terms as Chairman. He also served for many years as an examiner administering the national Federation Licensing Examination (FLEX). Dr. Adelman was on staff in Enid at St. Mary's Hospital and Bass Baptist Memorial Hospital and served as Chairman of the Medical Staff at both hospitals. He was a member of St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church where he served as Chairman of the church council for two terms.

Dr. Adelman was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Alice Adelman, and his son, Bart Adelman. He is survived by his wife, Joan Adelman; four sons, Al Adelman, Potomac, Maryland; Dr. Chris Adelman, Chagrin, Ohio; Dr. Hal Adelman, DeSoto, Texas; Mike Adelman, Piedmont, Oklahoma; three daughters, Carolyn Adelman, Dallas, Texas; Becky VanPool, Oklahoma City; Alice Rose, Bedminister, New Jersey; 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. .
