Dorothy Maxine Hughes
May 16, 1927 - August 23, 2012

Memorial Mass for Dorothy Maxine Hughes, 85, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. Rev. Joseph Irwin will officiate. Recitation of Rosary will be 7 p.m. Monday at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Dorothy was born to Ferdinand and Sophis (Bazman) Chrapkowski May 16, 1927, in Boelus, Nebraska, and died Thursday, August 23, 2012, in Enid. Dorothy grew up in Grand Island, Nebraska. On September 6, 1948, she married Donald Hughes. They moved to Enid, in 1957, where she was a homemaker and mother. Dorothy later worked at Newman's Department Store. She was a chaplain at St. Mary's Hospital from 1988 to 1995. Dorothy was a member of St. Gregory Church, Goodtimers Band, Catholic Women's Study Club, Mary Magdalene Study Club, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, RSVP and #1 Polka Club. She performed at Gaslight Theatre in 12 different performances.

She is survived by husband Don; children Carol and Ron Wyckoff and Diana and Elvin Whitehead, all of Enid, and Roger Hughes of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother Bernard Chrapkowski of Grand Island; and Bernadine Weinman of Wichita. Dorothy was preceded in death by son David, grandson Brian and brother Virgil.
