April 22, 1925 - March 28, 2009

Mass of Christian burial for Robert L. Gabel, 83, of Enid, will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. The Rev. Kevin Ratterman will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are by Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. Family visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

He was born April 22, 1925, in Long Beach, Calif., to Clarence and Antoinette Elsworth Gabel and died Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Kenwood Manor. He attended local schools. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Navy, serving during World War II in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He married Elnora Houser Sept. 1, 1951, in Long Beach, where they made their home. He worked for the Texaco refinery until his retirement. They later moved to Enid, where he was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.

Surviving are two sons, Michael Gabel of Enid and Paul Gabel of Oakland, Calif., and one granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elnora.
