Charles M. (Charlie) Ayer, 60, 1010 N. Seventh, died late Tuesday in a local hospital following a lengthy illness. A Wake service will be at 7 PM Friday in the Henninger - Allen Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral mass will be Saturday at 10 AM in the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with the Rev. Marvin F. Leven officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Ayer was born June 15, 1917, at Rollins, Wyoming. When a young boy, he moved with his parents to New Mexico where he graduated from high school. He was employed there following graduation, and married Leota Scheier of Roy. They established their first home there, and later lived in Wichita, Kansas, prior to moving to Enid in 1953.
Ayer owned and operated the P & A Meat Market until 1967, and was later employed by both Ideal and Long's at Lahoma before retiring in 1971. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army, and a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Leota; two sons, Paul, with the United States Marine Corp in Okinawa, and Neil, also with the United States Marine Corp in Japan; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Ann Ayer, of the home; four grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Marian Menapace, Maxwell, New Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
