Hayward- Funeral services for Leonard Zelle, 93, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the United Methidist Church, Hayward, with Rev. Bill McCaskill officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, South of Covington, under the direction of Anderson Funeral Home, Garber.

Born in Tremont, Ill. Zelle moved at an early age to Galesburg, Kan, before coming with his parents in 1894 to a homestead four miles south of Hayward.

He and Bertha Lubbers were married Dec. 22, 1913 at Liberal, Kan. and established their residence at the family homestead.

Zelle was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, had served as a member of the Stranton District School Board and was a member of the Garfield Co. Election Board for some 37 years, retiring when he was past 90 years of age.

He is survived by his wife of the home; a son George of New Mexico; two daughters, Louise and George Melvinof Ill.; Mildred and Albert Crausse, of Douglas; four grand children; and one great grandchild.
