Ruth Virginia (Handley) Wanger
May 17, 1933 ~ August 13, 2017

Ruth Wanger, 84 year old Fargo resident, died Sunday, August 13, 2017 in the Mooreland Heritage Manor. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Woodward with Reverend Todd White officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Ruth Virginia (Handley) Wanger was born May 17, 1933 in Woodward, Oklahoma to Virgil Vernon and Leona Ruth (Musselman) Handley. She moved with her family at an early age to the El Paso, Texas area where they lived for a period of time before moving to Larned, Kansas. After the 1947 Woodward Tornado, the family moved back to the Fort Supply and Woodward area. Ruth attended schools in Ysleta, Texas, Larned, Kansas, Woodward, and graduated from Fort Supply High School in 1951.

She was united in marriage to Lewis Wanger on November 4, 1950 at the home of Lewis"s parents in rural Fort Supply, Oklahoma. They made their first home in Fort Supply and in 1956 they moved to the Van Dorn Farm. In 1968, they bought the Flaherty Farm down the road. They moved the family into the house there in 1969 after some remodeling with the help of both of their dads. Ruth took care of her children during their school years, she milked cows, and she cooked for the students and teachers at Fort Supply School for eight years.

Ruth was a member of the Fort Supply Baptist Church. She was a great cook who always made the noodles at the church dinners and she crocheted a large picture of the Lord"s Supper and it is still in the Fort Supply Baptist Church and she crocheted over 100 family names for family. She made a lot of clothes for the kids and made her daughter Melinda"s wedding dress. Ruth loved cooking for family and friends, working in Vacation Bible School and Triple L Group, and most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and attending the many family reunions on all sides of the family.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Lewis Wanger; three sons: Kenneth Wanger and wife Brenda of Woodward, Danny Wanger and wife Lucinda of Gore, Donald Wanger and wife Katy of Fort Supply; one daughter Melinda Oblander and husband Steve of Woodward; one brother Earl Handley and wife Betty of Enid; sisters-in-law, Rachel Handley of Stroud and Margaret Handley of Wichita; grandchildren, Mark Oblander, Kent Wanger, Tim Oblander, Kylie Wanger, Elizabeth (Wanger) Todd, Kaden Wanger, Ashley Wanger, Jeromy Webb, Jared Kornele, and Breanne Vang; great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Chloe, Trent, Brodie, Jadelyn, Tyler, Brady, Jordan, Hannah, Hope, Grace, Brexton, and Itialy; sisters-in-law Jackie Wanger, Dorothy Ishmael, Lily Neill and husband Don, Alice Jones and husband Lennes; brother-in-law Harold Wanger; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil Handley and wife Vivian and Leona Handley Peck and husband Clayton, an infant son, Terry Wayne Wanger, brothers, Vernon Handley, Robert "Bob" Handley, Jerry Handley, infant brothers, Leo Allen and Jimmy Bert Handley, and sister-in-law, Delberta Handley; sister-in-law Bonnie Wanger, brothers-in-law Lloyd Wanger and Golden Ishmael.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Fort Supply Baptist Church, or the Fort Supply Fire Department or the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Alzheimers research with the funeral home accepting the contributions.

Lewis W. Wanger, 91-year-old Fort Supply resident, died Tuesday, June 22, 2021 in Mooreland. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 28, 2021 at the First Baptist Church in Woodward. Private family burial will be held in the Greenwood Cemetery, prior to the service. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 5-7. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Lewis Wayne Wanger was born on December 18, 1929 in Freedom, Oklahoma to Benjamin Elvin and Mary Edna (Devous) Wanger. Lewis grew up north of Freedom, Buffalo, Gage, and then Fort Supply. He began school at Unity and graduated from Fort Supply High School. He was united in marriage to Ruth Virginia Handley on November 4, 1950 at the home of Lewis's parents outside of Fort Supply, Oklahoma. They made their first home in Fort Supply and they then moved to a farm southwest of Fort Supply and then back to Fort Supply for a brief period. They moved to the "VanDorn Place" southwest of Fort Supply in 1956 and in 1968 they bought the Flaherty Farm and in 1969 moved the whole distance of 1 1/2 miles to that home. They called it home for 48 years.

In his early years Lewis worked at Western State Hospital and Wanger and Drake. In 1967, Lewis had a special opportunity to help build the highline from Clearlake to Fort Supply working for Ruth's Uncle Bill Musselman. In the 1970's and 1980's you could find him working at the Woodward Livestock Auction on Fridays. But through all these jobs he continued to farm and ranch. Farming was his life. He loved a crisp, clear, still morning and was known to belt out "Oh What a Beautiful Morning" as he went to feed and milk the cows.

Lewis was a long-time member of the Fort Supply Baptist Church and served as a Deacon for many years. He enjoyed driving the tractor, feeding the cattle, the squirrels, helping his neighbors, and he loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by one daughter, Melinda Oblander and husband Steve of Woodward; three sons: Kenneth Wanger and wife Brenda of Woodward, Danny Wanger and wife Lucinda of Gore, Donald Wanger and wife Katy of Fort Supply; one brother, Harold Wanger; three sisters: Dorothy Long Ishmael, Lily Deweese Neill and husband Don, Alice Jones; grandchildren: Mark Oblander, Kent Wanger, Tim Oblander, Kylie Wanger, Elizabeth (Wanger) Todd, Kaden Wanger, Ashley Bagwell, Jeromy Webb, Jared Kornele, and Breanne Vang; great-grandchildren: Makaila, Chloe, Trent, Brodie, Jadelyn, Tyler, Brady, Jordan, Hannah, Hope, Grace, Brexton, Itialy, Kyler, and Aiverleigh; great-great-grandchildren: Arabella, Jason, Cooper; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 67 years, Ruth Wanger in 2017, infant son, Terry Wayne Wanger, brother Loyd Wanger and wife Jackie, brothers-in-law, Clifton Long, Golden Ishmael, D.L. Deweese, Lennes Jones, sister-in-law, Bonnie Wanger, and great-granddaughter, Finley Elizabeth Oblander.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fort Supply Baptist Church or the Fort Supply Fire Department with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
