March 17, 1964 ~ December 02, 2020

Richard Lee Royal, husband, son, father, grandfather, sibling, teacher, pastor and friend, was born March 17, 1964 in Wichita, KS. He was one of five children that blessed the home of John and Murita (Goodpasture) Royal. He completed his earthly journey on December 2, 2020 at his home in Miami, TX. at the age of 56 years.

At the age of seven, Richard moved with his family from Lake Stevens, WA. to Hydro, OK. He completed his elementary and high school education in the Hydro school system, graduating with the class of 1982. Following graduation he attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University at Weatherford, OK. from 1982-1985, he then transferred to Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Oklahoma and finished his Bachelor’s degree in music education in 1986. He achieved his goal of finally obtaining his Master’s degree in Education Administration from Lamar University in the fall of 2019.

In August of 1984, Richard was united in marriage to Deryla Lamunyon. They were the parents of three sons, Rusty Jo, Ryan Lee and Ross Dean. They resided in Hooker, OK and Ringwood, OK before moving to Arnett, OK. in 1993 where Richard was employed by the First Christian Church. He also began teaching elementary music part time for the Arnett Public School system.

Richard was baptized as a youngster at the 1st Baptist Church in Hydro, OK. He followed his faith and served as the pastor of the Arnett 1st Christian Church from 1993-2013. He was also a member of St. Albans Lodge # 192 in Arnett, OK.

In Enid OK. on April 17, 2015, Richard was united in marriage to Tara Colene Collins and he gained three step children, Collin Bryant, Jaydelyn and Kaizlyn Dobrinski. Richard and Tara lived in Enid, OK. and Canadian, TX. before moving to Miami, TX. in 2016 where Richard was the pastor of the First Christian Church and the Band Director of the Miami ISD Warrior Band and music program. He loved the kids and co-workers at Miami ISD very much and had dreams of being the principal someday.

Richard was a devoted teacher and supporter of his students, he was the activity bus driver and enjoyed many road trips throughout his teaching career. He was an avid OU football fan and also enjoyed fishing, singing, entertaining and spending time with family and friends. Kids were the highlight of Richard’s day. Whether it be his kids, his stepchildren, grandkids or school kids nothing brought him greater joy than “talking” Donald Duck and having fun with the kids.

Survivors include his wife, Tara Royal of Miami, TX., his parents, John and Murita Royal of Hydro, OK., his sons Rusty Royal and his wife Alison of Shattuck, OK., Ryan Royal and his wife Jessi of Medford, OK. and Ross Royal and his wife Emily of Arnett, OK. and eight wonderful grandchildren.
